I'm gonna go ahead and guess it some function lower of poverty levels, lower unemployment rates, higher education levels, and culture.

But then again, that shouldn't really be considered groundbreaking or earth shattering information.

This is just plain !@#$ing stupid. It doesn't deserve further commentary. You have to be a bleeding !@#$ lib, PC to the nth degree, struggling to make peace with the Gods of relativism to even entertain such absurd notions.

Why?

Because the trash that was in New Orleans couldn't behave and the poor people of Japan are struggling to get by and yet maintaining a high level respect.

Funny, I saw where for 3 hours prior to opening there were hundreds, if not thousands, of people were waiting patiently to go shopping. If that was "NOLA" as it has now been dubbed the store would not have been there by morning because people feel endebted to their freedoms in this country - in other words, people just don't care about anyone else but themselves.

Well, as the article said, looting also happened in Chile, Haiti and England. If anything, it's more a testament to the integrity of the Japanese culture that there was no looting.

Yes, but in Chile and Haiti the people have been opressed and I would have to beleive that it was a chance to finally stand up to "the man."

In England looting is a pass time. They do it a lot with cross country kickball.

DId you see the place? There is nothing left to loot!

Now what would happen if the quake hits Tokyo harder? They will loot.

Also on another noter... How people have selective memory for the present and think the past was such a better time.

Here is a Wiki picture of soldiers looting druing the 1906 San Fran quake:

1906 Looting

Most of the fires in 1906 were set on purpose to get insurance claims.

Don't say it doesn't happen in Japan... We just aren't hearing about it. And the devastation of the tsunami wiped everything out too....

hmmmm...maybe a peak into where civilization should be right about now. Even ones in crisis.

So you want to be a socialized country like Japan is? Japan is very socialized, right?

England is socialist. Anyway, I think the reason they don't loot is the same reason there is little crime there.

Yes but the mayor of SF issued "shoot to kill" orders of any looters. Imagine that today. And I, like Wacka, would like to see where you got the fires and insurance claims.

Now there may have been some looting but the transformation of SF after the earthquake to the city it is today is by far one of the best stories of a city coming together after a major castastrophe. Something that has not happend so much in NOLA. I think it was actually one of the best things to happen to the city of SF. Kind of like the 1986 Loma Prieta quaked forcing the demolition of the Embarcadero Freeway being the second best.

Yes but if you look further into this you'll see it was stolen by some black on vacation from New Orleans.

What is he making up?

I am going to try and respond (against all of my better judgment) to you like you're actually asking me this question, rather than making a statement.

The part that he is making up is the part where he says England is socialist. I thought it was pretty obvious since I posted a reply directly to that quote, but maybe not.
