/dev/null Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Moon will be at the closest perigee in 18 years, resulting in a bigger and brighter full moon. http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/16mar_supermoon/ Look to the sky tonight (especially around sunset)
Chef Jim Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 (edited) Moon will be at the closest perigee in 18 years, resulting in a bigger and brighter full moon. http://science.nasa....6mar_supermoon/ Look to the sky tonight (especially around sunset) Won't see a goddamn thing here in SF. There is some loon out here though predicting this, among other signs, means there will be a very large earthquake on the west coast. I'm staying close to my sturdy desk though just to be safe. I guess that makes him a lunar loon. Edited March 19, 2011 by Chef Jim

The Jessie Ventura nuts say that Earthquakes always happen after a space shuttle takes off...oddly, it seems to be somewhat true. I feel bad for you not being able to see it; I get to see it every night when I go check on things. I don't have street lights or other lights around and the moon can light up the evening like a flood light. I can see clear across fields, colors and everything. It's gorgeous.

Well I wouldn't see it out here even if I headed to the country which isn't far from the city. We're having torrential rains this weekend.

Chef Jim Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Send me the rain. 3" is fine. I'll send you the moon, fair trade. Ok, just don't shoot me the moon.
ieatcrayonz Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Ok, just don't shoot me the moon. Pass him a couple of low hearts then.
Jim in Anchorage Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 35 foot tide for Anchorage tomorrow. That's a lot of water to move in 6 hours.
DrDawkinstein Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 We have the technology, the time is now, science can wait no longer. Children are our future. America can, should, must and will blow up the moon!
DC Tom Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I guess that makes him a lunar loon. A moon bug...in other words, a "lunar tick". But really...that's where "lunatic" derives from, the root of the word is "luna". (Don't know where "tic" came from).
Simon Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 The moon here is absolutely ginormous tonight. But really...that's where "lunatic" derives from, the root of the word is "luna". (Don't know where "tic" came from). Reverse Dictionary
BuffaloBill Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Just went out to look at it - finally cleared the trees and houses. Pretty bright ... gave the wifey a kiss under the light of the full moon ... maybe she will turn into a werewolf later

truth on hold Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Was out about an hour ago in NYC. Guess it does look a little brighter, but no larger than normal. Honestly don't I think would have noticed anything different.
ajzepp Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Wow, the moon here in north Georgia is bright as hell. It almost looks like I could reach up and grab it. Very cool.
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I noticed it almost a week ago too AJ... Not quite full but the moon was very close and large... A different looking orange too. This is one of the latest Easters ever... I can't remeber it this late. Easter= the first sunday of the first full moon after the spring equinox.
