You're losing me.

yawn.

Sure. Right.

You are all about arbitrarily invading people's privacy and persecuting them for their religious beliefs...

...but don't want to hold other people to the same standards for their non-religious beliefs(i.e. having 4 bastard kids from different fathers being OK is surely not a religious belief), and/or, you don't want to come up with realistic solutions about what to do with the 4 bastards. That's why I want a "on your ass every day for the next 18 years" approach, because that is a serious consequence.

The reason the foster system is the mess it is: no REAL accountability for people who like to F around and do drugs. We have not only tolerated this behavior, we have encouraged it, by paying for the consequences. Thank you, LBJ.

That's why the Founding Fathers were smart to talk in terms of what government isn't allowed to do, rather than what it is allowed. We have gotten into trouble by listening to people who talk in terms of what "your country can do for you".

I am not about persecuting anyone for religious beliefs. We can see that persecuting anyone for their religious beliefs has been bad (Catholics, Jews, etc). I am simply against religion being a factor in making a decision involving someone other then yourself. If worshipping a houseplant or the Easter bunny makes you a better person then good for you, because that's all god is in reality.

The problem I see with getting more involved with someones life is that we now tell them how to run their lives which are probably already far from normally accepted. I am not about dictating what someone should do with their life. Not at all. There is not much of a chance for those children growing up in a broken home, foster care or anywhere. A happy home, of course, doesn't have to be a breadwinner husband and stay at home mom. It can be a [hot] mom and another [hotter] mom, or two [light on their loafers wearing fur boa] men. Also, with the court system dictating that someone will be on my ass for 18 years - as a man I worry. What if I wanted nothing to do with that child? What if I had never wanted the child, was lied to about the conception of that child, birth control used, etc...and she got pregnant? Why should I have a boot up my ass when it is only something that was half of my doing? If I had a kid tomorrow I would do everything I could to stay out of that kids life - I do not want a kid, at least not now, and I would know that kid was with a woman I have no interest in establishing a happy enviroment. It would not be fair to the child, myself or the woman. Why should a man who does not have the same rights as that woman be as responsible as the her?

You and I agree here. The government, local or federal, cannot succeed much effectively. Why would we want to get the government more involved?

The idea of allowing people to get spayed or neutered for a fee would be a proactive approach to a system that is voluntary. I also support that depending on the crime you can face alternative punishment. It would not be right to cut off the arm of a thief because they then become a liability. Instead, for thiefs and other crimes of a serious nature but not involving a victim but would still face 2-5 years, allow them to be castrated just like I do my bull calves. Test medications on them, send them to the military, let them go somewhere besides a prison. There is a reason states no longer include the word rehabilitation in their department of corrections.

If people only began to realize that there are things they can do for their country then it would be entirely different. Instead, we're a pussified nation that has one finger over lawsuit button and another pointing at someone else.
