Patriots Safety Brandon Meriweather Accused Of Shooting Two Men During Brawl

Luke O'Brien — Patriots Safety Brandon Meriweather Accused Of Shooting Two Men During BrawlNew England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly shot two men, one of them in the head, during a fight on Feb. 27 outside a house party in Apopka, Florida, according to John Morgan, attorney for the victims.

The trouble started at the Blue Jeans Lounge in Apokpa when a friend of Meriweather's allegedly beat up a woman, according to Morgan. The woman's brother arrived later with his own friend, and the conflagration shifted to a nearby party, where the brother soon got the better of Meriweather's friend in a fight. That's when Meriweather allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at the brother, grazing the man's face and hitting the other victim in the head, according to Morgan.

"He's extremely lucky to be alive," Morgan said.

Both victims attended Apopka High School with Meriweather, who later played football at the University of Miami. Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff's Office are investigating the case but have made no arrests, Morgan said. The public information officer at the sheriff's office did not return phone calls yesterday.

Former Hurricane and current sports talk radio host Dan Sileo appears to be the first to mention the shooting. Until we hear back from the cops, however, these are all just allegations. But we'll keep you posted.

Thanks to reader CT for pointing us in the right direction.

A millionaire going to house parties with a gun?

Some people will never learn. Ignorance and immaturity at its best.

Stuff like this just leaves the NFL a black eye. Money doesn't make you smarter or change what you are.

You know what's going to happen, don't you? The Patriots are going to sign Whitner, and he's going to do quite well for them.

that's because they play us twice, and we don't have a tight end on the roster.

He is a Patriot so he will probably get a pass or a slap on the wrist at most.

On a side note, I used to live in Apopka and Apopka High School is as close as they come to being a football powerhouse in the state of Florida in any city not named Miami. Warren Sapp is from there. Yearly they send a few players to D1 or D1A schools. Unfortunately, Apopka is also a tale of two cities. It's probably about the a size of Hamburg, maybe smaller. About 1/3rd of the city is below the ghetto line. They don't have cars on blocks, the houses are. The funny thing is, you can get a house less than a mile from "the hood" starting around $750k or get one in "the hood" for about $750.00. It's a pretty nice place to live but don't cross the tracks at night.

I'd question if the victim knows an NFL player is a big pay day on this one- could be.

Also depending on the CBA extensions terms, he may not be subject to suspension from the NFL even if convicted. No CBA, no player conduct standards.

I'm sure that Kraft will just use some of that money that he's "not making" and make this whole thing go away.

They'll make it retroactive if need be. Regardless, it's unimportant if he's found guilty. Florida has very strict laws regarding gunplay, and he'll end up in jail.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Meriweather will get an 8 game suspension reduced to 2 games after he demonstrates "good behavior" over the summer, as per the usual for the good teams.

realized it was a february incident, so no matter.

if there is no policy in place today though, you absolutely 100% can not do it retroactively. im going to guess players are trading something like continued health insurance for the conduct policy to remain during these extensions. still curious though.

Does that mean Whitner will join in when the Pats* laugh at us during the game? Or will Whitner insist they put a stop to it?

GO BILLS!!!
