Survivor: Redemption Island

Gotta disagree Rico. I'd say Parvati is probably the best survivor ever (not to mention one of the hottest). Yes she used her looks, but she was also really intelligent and knew how to play people as well as performing pretty damn good in the challenges. She was never afraid to make the big move when necessary, and it usually paid off. Probably the best social player in the game.

Also, if you guys remember Jonathan Penner (he was on the season where they split by race, and then again on fans vs favorites), he was in the 90s movie Down Periscope.

Was that the guy who had to leave the game d/t injury? He seemed like a pretty savvy player, although I hadn't seen his first season.

And I could go for Parvati as the best ever, because she did get under Russells skin...but FRICKIN SANDRA??? lol

I can't go for sandra because she did nothing suring either of her 2 seasons. She loafd and coasted and only won 2 times because she was the lesser of 2 evils.

And yeah, jonathan was the guy who had the infection and had to leave early on in fans vs favs.

Parvati is probably my 2nd greatest ever, and I have no problem with her being considered the best. She did make a critical error in Heroes v. Villains, when she had a golden opportunity to get rid of Sandra & didn't make it happen... ended up costing her a 2nd million.

Not a big Penner fan, but I do think Brian Heiduk (sp?), the used car salesman / soft-porn star had a brilliant run in winning Season 5, though admittedly against a bunch of idiots. It's been a while since I saw it, but I think that Final Tribal is my fav ever, with him & racist Clay just getting hammered by everyone on the jury.

Exactly. Growing up, the matches were important. As adults, the fun for a lot of us is in how the business is run, the psychology behind getting a character over, etc. I have my DVR set to record Raw each week now, but I usually get through all two hours in about twenty mins. I was really glad I had it set to record last week, cause I was majorly geeking out to the Rock. I remember when that kid came into the WWF as Rocky Maivea (sp?), and to see him evolve into a worldwide superstar was a pretty cool thing. Same with Stone Cold. Here's a guy who was in WCW and ECW, had decent runs, but Vince turned the guy into a household name and the biggest draw in the industry. Next to being sole owner of the Buffalo Bills or one of the Backstreet Boys (that one was for you, Jim!), one of my dream jobs would be to work in character development for WWE.

I saw that, Rock was amazing on the mic last week. Nothing really new after all these years, but it still works big-time, everyone backstage should've been taking notes. Vickie is the one that gets me, way more heat on the mic than anyone else on the current roster.

Yep, I think what hit me was the stark contrast between him and the WWE of the last ten years or so. When Rock and Stone Cold left, it was the first time in years that they didn't have that one bigger than life figure as the face of the company. HHH was sort of there, as was Michaels, but John Cena is a bit too polariazing to handle that role, IMO. But yeah, the Rock reminded everyone what a true star looks and sounds like, and I loved every minute of that mic work last week. I also loved that he called out Cena...that will be interesting to watch play out.

Look at the recent topics that this unknown douche has started:

Whole Wheat bread

Glen Beck has lost it.

Do we really care if the Muslims take over Egypt?

Any one use MSG in food?

have a cheap laugh at his expense

then just ignore and feel pity. ;)

I'm not sure if I like the Redemption Island twist, it reminds me to much of when Lil  got voted out, then came back in and robbed Fairplay of his most deserved win. Always good to see Russell around though.

Little creepy you would take time to research me.

That's nothing. You should see what he did to AKC a few years ago! :w00t:

What's the big deal about WWF? It's so friggin' fake! And why are you talking about it in a Survivor thread?? :P

Dude, don't make me tell everyone how you spend your time reading trashy romance novels...cause I WILL!!!

Trashy romance novels isn't the bottom, but its close. You know you've hit rock bottom when you begin reading NASCAR themed trashy romance novels. I've seen them sold here in Tally.

You can't tell me that a book titled "Cowboy Trouble" is considered "trashy." :w00t:

NASCAR = How boring is it to sit there and watch cars go round and round and maybe crash...oooo excitement! Can't make for a very good book, let alone a good "trashy romance." :bag:

BTW, I only read good wholesome books! 0:)

Usually it takes me a few episodes to really get into a season of Survivor because you have to get to know the cast and kind of warm up to them.

Not this year. Two eps in and I'm hooked. It's not only a great cast, but I think Redemption Island is a great way to keep the show fresh. It introduces brand new strategies into the game which forces different permutations and moves. This could be the best season yet ... something I'd never thought I'd say so early into a season.

Still, there might come a moment (once they learn REALLY how Redemption Island works) where the best strategy is to go to redemption island. For example, you blind side someone and don't want them to come back into the game because they're such a strong player, it might be worth the gamble to go there yourself to make sure they don't come back.

It's also just a great way to build in a Rocky-esque comeback story into any season.

Okay, enough gushing.

I was warmed up to Natalie last night. That's a nice yellow bikini.... I was a little worried when she lost their lead in the immunity challenge. But, then again, her part with opening the locks was a matter of pure luck.

Matt was totally blind-sided last night. Looks like the orange tribe is content to ride on Rob's coat-tails. Flubber-t*ts used her idol last night, so unless Phil goes totally wacko (this is entirely possible!) she's next on Rob's hit list.

But the most important development of the night happened in the other camp, as the hairy farmer guy found the idol even before Russell spent a lot of capital denying that he stole the clue. With HFG having the idol and if the others find out Russell tried to screw them, I think they may pick off the biggest target first. And I think they may lose immunity on purpose just to do it. The next-week teaser featured one of Russell's girls saying 'this is going to be the biggest blind-side in the history of Survivor!' Just wondering what that means --- if that group of three is so cocky when they don't even have the idol, or if Russell's girls are going to blindside him. The latter would be totally awesome.

Just waiting to see what the parameters are for Redemption Island. Several of them have said they might actually prefer to be there, but I really think they're talking out of their *s. They have no idea what it's going to be. Your situation might come more into play especially as it gets further along in the game. Imagine, after a merge, it's still in play and Rob forms an alliance to send Russell there, then elects to go there himself to knock Russell out, then only has to go against the weaker players the others send packing.

As I wrote upthread, it's been a long time since I watched more than one episode per season when nothing else was on. It may be cast-contingent, but I think it's now in the guilty pleasure category. Same goes for Amazing Race.

Good stuff!

I noticed that "blind side" bit in the tease too. My theory (pure speculation) is that she was relaying a story to Russel. As in, the rest of the tribe told her that they were going to blindside Russel and proclaimed it to be "the biggest blind side ever". But, that's not based on anything other than a hunch.

I like your theory though that the women would team up to take him out.

I really enjoy watching Russel and he may be the best player ever. This being the third season he is competing I'm a little disappointed he hasn't refined his game a little. For being so smart the reason he lost the last two times seems lost on him. He seems more arrogant and abrasive than ever. The same things that cost him the prize in the final. I would think he would have been aware enough to improve his political game a bit.

That's exactly how I felt after last night's episode. As much as I love this guy's game, Rob is clearly playing the stronger game after the first two shows. To Russell's credit, though, in each of his last two seasons whenever he wanted someone gone from the game, and even told it to their faces that they were going home, that person USUALLY went home. But I completely agree that he needs a dose of humility. He's too high up on his horse so far this season, and this time around he enters with a reputation. I have a lot of faith in his ability to manipulate the pieces to serve his wishes, but he's not omnipotent. If his game doesn't evolve, he'll be gone sooner than later.

Yeah, i'm considering revising my stance on Russell. He's down the numbers by 6 to 3, and this time he's got 6 people that are targeting him. Prior to that, he had either really close numbers, or no one specifically targeting him (except the him vs Boston Rob showdown on the villains tribe). The 6 against him currently know his game, and seem to be strong together.

I wouldn't be shocked ot see him voted off next, but even if that happened, he'd probably be the odds on favorite to return.

Russell and Robbfather on Redemption Island would be an epic episode.

Hell yeah it would! I'm just glad that Rob seems to have his mojo back...he was a bit of a B word the last time out. I don't know if he was just fatigued prior to the show or what, but he was NOT in game shape. He seems to be a little more energetic and ready to win this time around.

This season has the potential to be one of the best...I really hope it pans out! Whoever cast that Phillip guy is genius!

And it has nothing to do with the wife saying " how can she take care of her hair?" Lame, pussafication of America. Actors sitting on a beach pretending to be in a survival setting.

'

I won't disagree with the "pussafication of America" angle but I think Survivor is a weak example. Look no farther than Oprah, Maroon Five, and that turd burgler that sings "Your Beautiful". Man how does that guy look at himself in the mirror every morning. I guess the adoration of soccer moms and tennie boppers make it worth it?
