Survivor: Redemption Island

Can someone explain why he'd keep Natalie and vote off Grant...? I can't for the life of me figure out why that's a good idea...

Rob thinks he has Natalie in his back pocket and likely see's Grant tougher in immunity/challenges. Personally I think that it was a mistake because Natalie and Ashley are so close that they might team up with Phillip and knock the Robfather off. Of course there's still that pesky redemption island survivor as to when he/she are going to join the rest of the tribe.

Rob does have Natalie in his pocket. They have had the strongest alliance this season. I don't think there's a chance she's going to break. As happens when the numbers dwindle, it'll depend most on who wins the immunity challenge. If Ashley does not win, she's a goner. If Ashley does win, Rob and Natalie are going to have to sell Ashley on Phillip... and it likely won't be a difficult sell after what happened this week b/w them WRT rice apportionment.

Where the hell does Phillip get off on that? That the girls should eat less b/c they need fewer calories? Six scoops of rice doesn't even begin to near the "1,700 calories" that Phillip claims women need. It's not like they're getting excess/spare calories. Why should they have to sacrifice an equal share of the scarce supply? Once again, all Phillip has done is alienated another potential jury vote... if his plan to be #2 to Rob by being a crazy mofo actually works.

I also think the RI winner will be coming back into the game after the next challenge there. So it will be going back to 5. And in that case, there could be a reprieve for Ashley or Phillip, depending on who comes back. If it's Grant, it'll get interesting. Anyone else, they'll probably be the first off.

As he said in the aside video, Rob is probably going a little nuts more than anyone b/c he has to figure out when is the last time he can use or offer the hidden idol.

Robfather is just tremendous tonight!:worthy:

Now that Final 3 is set, I can't see anyway he doesn't win.

When both of them in their statements flat-out said they got there by being loyal to Rob, that cemented it.

Natalie's pitch was probably the worst ever; I haven't watched much of Survivor since the first two seasons, but it can't POSSIBLY be worse than 'I did what Rob told me' and "If you vote for me, I'll be the youngest female Survivor winner ever!" And Phillip in the questions is basically telling everyone not to vote for him. And now, it looks like Ralph is the one to expose her.

What really gets me now is Matt and Julie saying that they didn't play respectably or honestly. Those qualities have little or no bearing in the game. Rob should've been like, "Survivor is a game like any other. When you open that box of "Risk," start throwing the dice, and taking countries, you're not making friends in the gameplay itself. It takes strategy and a lot of luck. It makes people angry when you invade South Africa or Alaska. But if I didn't do it, someone else would. And then when the game's over you close the box, and maybe you're still a little fumed. But you get over it and you usually come to have a friendship with your competitors. Don't vote for the dude who only had Africa and didn't attack you just because he didn't get the opportunity. Vote for the strongest player."

Dave's speech was great. While everyone else is firing bullets haphazardly at this one did this, that one did that, he put one shot right to the heart and wrapped up in 30 seconds the entire story of the season.

And it's Rob. He didn't even use the hidden idol. Ashley says in the reunion that Rob did tell them about it off-camera.

Three things....

1 - I don't think it's particularly fair for newbies to have to go against Survivor vets. Multiple chances ought to take place only in All-Star competitions. Regardless that the vet has a target on their back, previous experience is a major leg up.

2 - The Redemption Island arc added a great twist to the game. I really hope they keep this into the future. Everybody says they detest the backstabbing, the lying, etc. and RI provides some recourse to this. It's also much more exciting than watching a reward challenge.

3 - It's nice to hear Rob say (before the final vote was tallied) that this is his final entry into the game. "I've been playing Survivor for a third of my life. It's time to stop playing games." Rob really did work his ass off to earn this. Early on, while finding a hidden idol, he said, "Ya gotta hustle to make a dollah." It's kind of sad that Grant stopped talking to him a few weeks into the airings, but, hey....

But he did use the Idol at the Final 4, even though it turned out he didn't need to.... looking at it now, smart move IMO.

Russell looks none-too-pleased. :(

And Redemption Island needs to go.... would've been a total farce if one of those losers ended up winning.

Did he? A close friend called from OZ who I haven't seen or heard much of in 6 months, and that takes all precedence over watching this. I totally missed that.

I don't think that about RI at all, but I can respect your opinion.

-- Another note: Phillip burning those pink underwear was  .

Yeah he did.

Take this season... Matt gets voted off twice, then bonds with everyone on the jury who was on RI with him. If he got back in instead of Andrea & made it to Final Tribal, he probably would've won, and I don't think that's right, not at all.

Congrats to Rob...well deserved, and it was great to see him back in top form

I was SO glad when Dave gave that speech during the final tribal. The worst part of this show is how seemingly EVERY damn season the jury can't get over being butt hurt, and they allow their emotions and feelings to get in the way of voting for the player who truly played the best game. I really wish they'd make that part of the screening process, cause it's getting old. Thankfully Dave put the smack down on that issue and kept it real, and the right person won. I don't remember which one of the whiny girls said it, but they were like, "Rob, you had to lie to win and I don't even feel like I know who you are." OF COURSE YOU DON'T KNOW WHO HE IS! lol The game isn't about being who you REALLY are, or about being the most honest or loyal...it's about SURVIVAL. If playing this game helps you become closer to God, or to understand more about yourself, then that's great. But for gosh sakes, when it comes who voting for the winner, vote for the SOLE SURVIVOR...not the person who was nicest to you or whatever...

It would have been nice to see Matt win the fan favorite, but that's cool that Rob won it. He and Amber should be financially set for life with their family, now.

Can't wait til the South Pacific!

Survivor 23 South Pacific preview:

RI is back (meh), as well as another 2 former players... anyone but Rupert's monkey ass please!

Rupert was interesting the first time he played, but his last go-round on Heroes v. Villains he was boring as hell. I hope it's not him, too. I want to see Fairplay get his act together and play the game once more

David's speach to the jury was :worthy: . If someone would have done the the 1st season that Russell played he would have won. It was like hey get your heads out of your butts and quit PMSing.

The marriage proposal was <_< . My wife said the chick looks like a porn star.

CONGRATS TO ROBFATHER!

Fairplay would be outstanding! But If they must bring 2 people back, I hope it isn't people who have already been brought back once already. Cirie is another one I never want to see again.

Should Redemption Island be used in future episodes? (POLL)

Yes. It's a great twist that brings a new dimension to the game. 10 votes

No. It fundamentally alters the essence of Survivor. 157 votes

Well, in order to vote, one needs to register. That right there will offput most people who aren't vehemently opposed to RI.

Sorry, but it looks like it's here to stay.

Did I get the sense that Dave is still playing the game... learning from the Robfather? Endear yourself to the Survivor producers by marrying a fellow former castaway so as to increase the chance they give you another shot. And yeah, she does. Her reaction was something less than what I'd personally hope for... making some snarky comment and just sitting there, twice or three times repeating some remark about the game still blindsiding her. But hey, I don't wanna judge and I didn't see the season when she played to have a sense of her personality beyond being suddeny proposed to on national teevee.... I wish them very happy.

Completely agreed. Anyone who's played more than one time in any season should be relegated to all-star shows. Otherwise it's like throwing a snake in a room full of mice.

Actually, it seems to be pretty rare that this happens... I know you love Russell, but he's one of the only people who wasn't voted to win - and it's because he was a jerk (that, and I still think the girl who won did play him pretty good -- without her, he wouldn't have made it to the finals the first time).

As for RI -- I was hoping that the main tribe gets the final two, and the winner of RI gets the third spot in the finals. As it stands now, RI seems a bit lame because the person who comes back from RI gets voted out instantly... Or maybe that's just how this season played out and it won't happen in the future.

...which brings me to my OTHER criticism of the game, lol...I wish there were another way (or ways) for the stronger players to protect themselves. Just looking at this season, the final 5 players were not at ALL representative of the five strongest or most deserving players. It seems that most seasons it's the strongest players who are targeted early on and who end up getting sent to the jury. It just seems as though there should be more that an individual can to do earn protection.

Oh well...

The good news? Big Brother is back on July 7th!!!!!!

It sounds like you don't actually like the game of Survivor... Why not just put a bunch of people on the island and take the ones who win the most challenges and are the strongest and put them on the finale show? :P

Is BB going to be in HD this year? If not, I probably won't even watch.
