Steve O Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Live next to the coast guard station, flag was at half staff yesterday and again today. President's day for flying flag at half staff is third Monday in February so it isn't that. Only thing I can think of is Reagan's 100th birthday but the rules are pretty specific for flying flags at half staff, if that is it would think it would be a one day thing. Anyone know? http://www.gettysburgflag.com/flyflaghalfmast.php
Rubes Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 They were lowered because of the Arizona shooting, but I don't know if that still applies.

UConn James Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 That's probably it...think they stay lowered for a month. Thanks The Tucson shooting occurred on 9 January. Perhaps a service member from your state was killed in the GWOT?
Chef Jim Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 We were coming back from wine country yesterday and saw a very large one at half staff and we wondered the same thing.
Steve O Posted February 13, 2011 Author Posted February 13, 2011 Is that a base in VA ? No, I'm in Rochester
boyst Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Valentines day. The moment of silence will be between 8am and 11:59 tomorrow. Please, everyone pay respect. Also, does the coast guard patrol the Erie Canal? Or sheriff? or who? Edited February 13, 2011 by jboyst62

Anyone know? http://www.gettysburgflag.com/flyflaghalfmast.php Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Thursday, February 10, in honor of a Jamestown Marine Corps Reservist who died February 7, in Afghanistan. Lance Corporal Aaron M. Swanson died while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment of the 4th Marine Division. His reserve unit is based in Buffalo. "On behalf of all New Yorkers I extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends, and fellow Marines of Lance Corporal Swanson," Governor Cuomo said. "This young Marine gave his life for our nation and we will honor and remember his service." Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of, and in tribute to, our state's service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
