I actually just got this e-mail today on why we should root on the Packers.

Go packers

------------------------------------------

Every Red Blooded American should jump in line to support the Green Bay

Packers! The Packers defeated the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon thus

earning them the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.

By doing so, they saved the Hard-Working, Red Blooded, Taxpaying Americans

literally several million dollars of tax money.

How you say? Simple... we were told that if the Chicago Bears had won that

President Obama (and probably his family) would be attending the Super Bowl

to cheer on his hometown team. Since the Bears lost...the President won't be

attending. The money saved from not using Air Force 1, the limousines, all

the additional security, and let's not forget Michelle Obama's entourage, is

literally several million dollars!

Therefore every American should cheer on the Green Bay Packers at the Super

Bowl to show them our gratitude.

With that said...let's circulate this email to everyone we know so they can

understand why they should cheer for America's team...the Green Bay

Packers!

But the simple truth is that he is a billionaire running a business, and there is no reason why you or I should somehow get passionately involved in “cheering” for it.

We're "suckers" because we root for teams that happen to be owned by billionaires?? By this logic, the Packers are the only team in any major sport that should have ANY fans.

This is the dumbest sports related article I have ever read. Isn't Market Watch a WSJ venture? How did this get published? Maybe for the NYT or Mother Jones, but Market Watch?

specifically, what points do you find invalid? you might argue with the conclusion but the premises are solid. makes me laugh to think patsies fans are really cheering for a box of mac and cheese.

Well, specifically his point that you and I and all fans of teams other than the Packers are "suckers" because we are simply supporting billionaires, not our teams. Are you really cheering for "Ralph Wilson Industries"?

His whole "premise" is that "billionaires" own all NFL teams (which is not "solid", but false)--and for this reason we should not root for our teams.

This you find a "valid" argument? It's beyond silly--is this guy some liberal arts freshman writing into the campus paper?

Give the guy a break....I'm sure he meant violating a whole bowl and not a single piece of cereal. Hope it's not Flutie Flakes.

I once heard a rumor about a guy who raped an entire box of Fruit Loops. Take it for what it's worth, it's just a rumor...

Not to mention the cost of deploying a third of the US Navy to Lake Dallas. Saved us at least 200 Billion!
