Mikie2times Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Willis is not yet 100%, so yes he could gain some additional speed. But please remember that he will never appear to be very fast. Flat footed runners have sneaky speed, they take long slower strides. The slower stride part is why they appear to be slow, but in reality they make up for this by covering more ground per stride. One more note about flat footed runners. One other famous flat footed RB comes to mind, Gale Sayers. He is also a great example of how running flat footed can be a huge advantage in inclement weather. Sayers once put up 6 TD's in a rainy game against the 49ers. If you watch the highlights he appears to be running on a dry field while everybody else can't even stand up. As the Sayers example shows running flat footed allows you to have more traction in bad weather. The reasoning is simple, if you run flat footed more of your foots surface area is touching the ground. This provides the additional traction a toe runner would not have.
