The fact that a guy of that stature actually signed with arguably the least desirable franchise in the league is a huge positive and could lead to other FA signings. It could be a bellwether of better times ahead.

Exactly especially after extending by free will after being dumped on us and being very negative about having to go to Buffalo, he came around and is actually saying stuff that hopefully will put us in a better light FA wise.

"Dumped on us?" Nobody forced the Bills to claim him did they?

What specifically is the specific risk? The Roster spot that he would take?

Or the job opportunities for his life if his body doesn't hold up and the Bills cut him before the season starts.

This signing should be seen as a positive. If we had let him sign elsewhere everyone would be screaming. Just imagine if his health is good and he played elsewhere.

Remember it's not your money and that the Bills have plenty of money to spend.

If Merriman can showcase coming to Buffalo as a positive that would be great! He already talked on the sports radio in Washington DC about how much potential he sees in the Bills' program.

:wallbash: Time to leave these 'why did we sign Merriman' and the postings to sign every old quarterback ... all in the same trash heap. :bag:

GO BILLS ...

Does anyone here do Second Life? If so, can you create a scenario where Merriman gets picked up by the Dolphins and see how many people here would complain that Buddy was asleep when a premier talent landed on the waiver wire, and the Bills could have gotten him for nothing?

Actually, any complaining would be drowned out by the mocking laughter that would no doubt pour out from these pages.

As an added bonus to having lights-out on the field, he also provides some entertainment arm wrestling one of the guys Stallone beat in Over The Top. Just saw the video while the old lady was watching TMZ. Good stuff

I can guarantee you that even if Merriman signed with the Dolphins and gave them average play, there would be an outcry around here. The FO has earned scorn, but it is in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't position on this board.

I'm not going to criticize because it's not my money. Obviously you're pretty passionate about it and are so conservative as to believe that the Bills shouldn't be entering low-risk, high-potential-reward situations. That's fine; I'm not sure why you'e an expert on it any more than the rest of us, though.
