tonawandaed Posted January 27, 2011 Share Posted January 27, 2011 1) 2002-2009 1st round picks:williams,mcgahee,evans/losman,none,whitner,lynch,maybin...not 1 pro bowl caliber player in all those years 2) uncertainty of defense personnel we already have...moats,batten,troup,merriman,etc. 3) top 10 talent has questions regarding their fit in our defenses 4) possible best available player will be a wide receiver or a cornerback 5) good chance defensive player chosen will have little impact this year(sorry i believe kelsay will still start) solution: trade our 1st round pick for another 1st in 2012 and another middle pick this year( not sure what the trade chart would show). still have same number of picks to strengthen our many backup players this year and gives us 2 first round picks in 2012 if we choose to enter the "andrew luck" bidding war. if not we take a page out of the "patriots" book and trade one of those 1st rounders for more picks in 2012/2013.might need to really go after 2 quality defensive player in free agency. So you trade the #3 pick in the draft, a HUGELY valuable thing to a team for their 2012 pick that could turn into the #20 pick in the draft. FYI there are a lot more numbers between 4 and 32 than there are between 1 and 2. You're literally guaranteeing that you devalue your pick. Terrible, dumb, laughable blunder. It takes at least two franchises to trade such a high pick, and nowadays, teams don't want to pay the money that it requires for such a high pick, much less give up multiple picks in return. In addition, when a pick that high is traded, most of the time it is for a franchise quarterback, and there really aren't any sure picks (like a Sam Bradford) in this draft, since Luck is staying in school. sorry but the post is not about trading down,but trading away the 1st round pick for next years 1st round for a possible pickup of andrew luck in 2012mmuch easier than trading down And delay the turnaround of this franchise yet another season-hasn't it been long enough already? Agreed, one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard on this board & that is saying something. You trade the 3rd pick this year, you better get every draft pick that team has in 2012.
