Gordio Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Okay, going to Vegas for Super Bowl weekend. Leaving Friday night & coming back Tuesday. Going down with 5 guys. This is the fifth year that we have been doing this. Little history, we are all huge college basketball followers & we love betting on it so what we usually do on Saturday is go to the Mirage, get there @ 8:30 in the morning & usually spend all day there(& when I am talking all day I mean from 8:30 am to usually around 10 at night so I really do mean all day). We bet a ton of games(last year I bet 23 games at $75 per game on that Saturday before the SB) so what we are looking for is a place that has a ton of games on, are lenient with the drink tickets when you put your bets in & takes all kinds of bets(halftime bets/bets from obscure conferences that some sports books will not touch/my friend like to make halftime bets when the lines get adjusted)& some where decent right by the SB that has decent bar food(nothing fancy). The Mirage is good & we will probably end up going there again(stick with what you know) but I just thought I would throw it out there if anybody else had a really good experience somewhere else. I heard Caesars is good(I have been in there before) but I heard they are really stingy about drink tickets & considering me & my friends each drink a case + of beer that day & with most Casinos charging $6 + per beer drink tickets are rather important to us. I heard the place at Pallazzio(sp) was really good but I heard it is geared towards the casual tourist/fan that just wants to take a hour break from the casino & watch the big game. My friends & I are not really interested per sey in the big game for that saturday, what we want is if we ask the person @ the betting table if they could turn on one of the tvs to wright St @ youngstown st they do not look at you like you have 2 heads. Any advice would be apreciated.
KD in CA Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I remember the Mirage as being the best around back in the late 90s, but I'd be surprised if some of the newer places didn't provide other good options. Have fun!
plenzmd1 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) if you have everyting you want at the mirage, i would say stay there. Only thing I will say is that last year my wife had some meeting or something in Caesars, I was small time betting the ponies, like $10 a race maybe every 15 minutes or so, and they gave me a ticket with every bet. W I usually stay at the the Hotel at Mandalay..I like the book there but have never played like you are talking about. More ponies for me killing a couple of hrs while wife shops or goes to the pool, but they always give me tickets as well..again betting small amounts.Maybe bet a couple games at $100 a pop is the extent of my sports betting out there. I always figure I can bet sports from anywhere, why do it in Vegas..need that money to lose at the tables LOL Would never vouch for your needs either one however Edited January 26, 2011 by plenzmd1

Interesting about Caesars but with ponies I read every place is more generous with the drink tickets. The Mirage they are a little hesitant at first but once you throw a $5 dollar tip there way they usually loosen up with the drink tickets. Lat year I started off betting 5 early games @ $75 per game or $375 worth of bets. I was lie to the lady can I have a couple drink tickets, she throws me 1. I said come on you can do better then that can't you. She was like "we are only supposed to give out 1 per every $300 woth of bets" I flipped her a $5 & magically she gave me 4 more drink tickets. So I kept flipping them a $5 every time I would put a round of bets in & it seemed like that did the trick. Everybody is chasing your money in that town. lol
EZC-Boston Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 My favorite for just casually hanging out for a big game is Mandalay, it's huge and awesome and usually a great atmosphere but not sure it is the set up you are looking for. I'm a pretty big fan of Mirage as well. They are the best with drink tickets and it seems to be a good home base. I think you're talking about Lagasse Stadium. I've never been but heard it is amazing.

I have read different reviews & a couple of the reviews said the way it is setup if you are a true gambler & like to take action on alot of games do not go there. If you want a place to watch a big game & do not really care about watching other games then that is the place to go. If you ever see pictures of it, it looks unbelievable but I do not think it would best serve my friends & I & what we are looking for.
bprulz Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 You could try the Hilton I hear there good with the drink tickets. The M is suppose to be pretty good also with in game betting. The M is a ways away from everything. No matter where you go throw the ticket writer a 20 and ask for some tickets and normally you will get a nice stack when you bet your games.
plenzmd1 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Yeah, I heard Mandalay Bay is really nice problem with that is the location, it is all the way down at the end of the strip. Interesting about Caesars but with ponies I read every place is more generous with the drink tickets. I can see that, especially on weekdays, the prolly throw more to us broken down horseplayers..we are the only people in the joint on a Wednesday afternoon!! Guess with the ponies they get guaranteed % of the handle as profit..so they prolly all want horseplayer's. In terms of the Mandalay, it is a little out of the way, but that is exactly why I like it. Less crowds in the casino on Friday and Saturday night than say Belligio or Wynn etc. Esay enough cab ride to downtown, where i go during the day to play craps Also, I like THE Hotel as all suites, and you do not have to roll thru the casino to get everywhere. But agree with EZC, really not the setup you are looking for.
EZC-Boston Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 they are always generous when you're betting the ponies, we usually bet the ponies even during a game we're interested in because you can get drink tickets and who knows you might even win (I have a buddy that will just put $2 on a favorite that pays 1-1 to get drink tickets works out well for him but not what I could call fun)

Guess cause I am always betting horses, just asumed they gave tickets to everyone.
EZC-Boston Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 actually good story from the Mirage, I asked them to put a Sabres game on once and the woman asked me if I was from Buffalo, and I said yes, she said she was too and proceeded to give me a fistful of drink tickets every bet I made the rest of the weekend.
