Saw WZ in Ithaca back in '79, when he was ' big ' (I think the album he was touring at the time was Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School, right 'on the heels' of Werewolves of London), then saw him years later as a one-man act at Boston's Paradise Lounge after his vices had taken control and caused him to lose his band.

Gotta say that seeing just him that second time, sans band or any backup musicians, on stage singing and playing - at various points - solo piano, harmonica, and unaccompanied 12-string and various other acoustic guitars as he went through his entire songbook alone, was an extremely revealing insight to the man's musical genius.

Zevon is one of my very favourites, and I wish he was still around creating new music and social commentary. I miss his caustic wit.
