The interesting thing about the first round round is that it really should be easy because the options are the most limited than in any other round. Get the guy who can make the most difference the next year. It is not the time for gambling which you can do in the late rounds and most especially in undrafted free agency. The first round is not the time to get the diamond in the rough and in my opinion, neither scout nor coach should get any credit for choices in the first two rounds if they do at all because these should be gimmes. Any knowledgeable Bills fan knows that Maybin could have moved to the Byrd spot (or much later) and Wood and Byrd could have been taken in the first round without issue. The problem with scouts was that you don't gamble in the first round and they did with Maybin, McGahee, Losman and McCargo and the gamble failed miserably and they did not learn from their mistake. Wood was one of the best centers in the draft. He was a starter since his freshman year and did very well. He was not a gamble. Same thing can be said about Mangold, any of the USC linebackers taken after Maybin, Orpakpo and a guy like Mankins who no one knew about and everyone questioned but the guy plays tough and hard and has started since he has been drafted. The Pats knew exactly what they were getting with him and he wasn't sexy but consistent. All of these guys have started and started well and will continue.

The Bills should know their odds. Let's hope . . . again.
