beggar13 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 We drafted Newton with the 3rd overall pick or signed Vince Young to a five year high dollar contract? Personally, I will want to shoot myself in the face if either happen.
Stealth Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 If we drafted Newton with the 3rd pick. Vince Young has a winning record as an NFL QB. No I don't believe he'll be the face of a franchise, but of all the bad things one can say about Young at least you know he can win some games. As Far as Newton goes, he was a 1 year college wonder, who would take at least several years of sitting before you know. You're wasting at least 5 years waiting to see if he's the guy or not, and if he's not well than it's back to square one, and before you know it you're looking at yet another decade of no playoffs.
Zulu Cthulhu Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 If VY gets his head screwed on straight he'll be a fine QB. I know that's a big IF, but at least young is a known quantity, unlike Newton.

What we know about VY is worse than what we don't know about Newton. The real IF is: IF the FO is smart enough to stay away from both these high-risk, no-net maneuvers!!

How do you know that Newton would have to sit for "several" years? Would you have said the same thing about Josh Freeman prior to the 2009 draft? Look where he is two years into his NFL career? benderbender Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Vince Young is 27 years old. If he was Newton's age, I could overlook his maturity issues but at this point it points to a mental imbalance.

The red flags are there.
