purple haze Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Man, if we landed him... it would leave Nix the job to just stock us up with players - Wouldn't this be the case regardless of Wannstedt coming or not? The Bills didn't stop the run before Edwards showed up. This has been a problem for the past few seasons. And there were a lot of folks ready to run Fewell out of town, said he was in over his head. Then they saw that the defense played hard, but lacked talent. Fewell goes to the Giants and for the most part do very well defensively. Why? Talent. If Wannstedt came and the talent was the same the Bills run D would STILL be terrible. Instead of sweating over DW sweat Nix getting more talent in the building and not just through the draft. I wouldn't mind DW being with the team, but perspective is needed. He's not a miracle worker any more than Edwards or Gailey are.

Glory Bound Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Ralph needs to dip into his stash & hire the stache ...what's a little cash when our defense is considered trash? Then ban all people with the last name of "Edwards" from having anything to do with this organization again. BAM...playoffs!

mikef272002 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 What is lame is that he can't just come take it over. That he has to deal w/ Edwards and his staff. If he wants to that's fine...but those people IMO should be working with him (should he come to buffalo) not the other way around. Basically I'm saying...if Wanny wants to come he should be the man. Plain and simple. Anything else is lame. What he'll be subordinate to some 1 year DC that had the worst Buffalo D of my life? That literally looked nonsensical at times? Hogwash. Here's what I figure is going down..Gaily don't wanna admit he made a mistake w/ Edwards as DC, but at the same time he want's to win. They fire the LB coach to make room for a new hire.. They want to bring in Wanny to be DC/Assistant HC, place Edwards to Linebackers coach / assistant DC, and tell everyone that Wanny is the new DC and that Edwards will be "learning" under Wanny. Same thing our Offensive Corr. does under gaily.

Ramius Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Between Wannstache and Fitzbeard, the Bills would lead the league in awesome facial hair.

I think it's safe to say he's not afraid to admit his mistakes.
DrDawkinstein Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I'll be hoping all weekend for some good news that the Bills have hired Wanny. It would be an immediate improvement by a large amount to our coaching staff. Wanny has a TON of big game and big team experience, he also has a great background at the college level. With those two attributes, he's exactly what our YOUNG team needs. A teacher, and a guy who has been there before, so when the youngin's get into a sticky situation, they can be coached out of it. He is basically the Gailey of the Defense. Git'r done Buddy!!

beast34 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The best case scenario DW takes the job as asst. head coach defense tutoring GE for a season or too, and most importantly is up in the coaches box on gameday to advise both Edwards and Gailey. Which is what LeBeau did with Perry Fewell. That way in a year or two when DW takes a new position somewhere else we won't have to start over again with a new Defensive Coordinator and scheme.

GG Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Gailey admitted he made a mistake starting Trent Edwards by replacing him after 2 games. I think it's safe to say he's not afraid to admit his mistakes. There's a big difference between the relationships with players & coaches. He coaxed Edwards out of the Florida job. So while that may have been a mistake, I'm sure he feels partly responsible for that (especially if he put on a hard sell) and wants to preserve Edwards' job for as long as possible.

dpberr Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 GG: Outstanding point. I think that Edwards would go the college route and find a gig pretty quickly if Wannstedt was brought in. I don't see Wannstedt taking any job but the DC if he's hired by the Bills.
