boyst
What I found Interesting topic, I looked around. It seems the most logical reason is that the control stick would be held by the dominant hand in most - right, while the left could push buttons, etc.
dib
Pilot sits on the left. My father-in-law flew dust offs for the Marines in Vietnam.

Beerball
Pilot sits on the left. My father-in-law flew dust offs for the Marines in Vietnam. Watched a repeat Mythbusters episode last night and the two non-military helicopters they were using both had the pilot on the right.
eSJayDee
Could it be as simple as helicopters were maybe invented/developed in England whereas fixed wing (where you fly from the left) were developed here & they maintained the driving convention? I've heard the reason that people drive on the left as a hold over from riding horses w/ a joust or sword (you wanted it in your dominant hand & ready for oncoming "traffic"). Why we adopted right over here, IDK (I do remember the old Michael Landon commercials as a kid "right is right").
