The pick was blasted by critics, fans, pundints and just about everyone. Last year people said trade one of the two backs!! People said trade McGahee, trade Henry!! TD held strong, and the pick has paid off. So has his 31 this year, lee evans. Kelsay is playing solid, Mcgee, good lord, is awsesome. I think the 2003 draft is a success, dont you? Henry sucks, limits the offense too much, poor pass protection in my opinion was the worst of Henry's offenses. I wasn't sure about Mcgahee after the injury, but I sure haven't been complaining about our running back play the last 7 weeks or so either. I've always felt that the football guys seem to know a bit more than the so-called experts, so when TD made that pick, it was for a reason. How could he pass up on a guy that probably would have been a top 3 pick and still get him in the low 20's. He still got his guy in Kelsay 20 picks later because, unlike the so-called experts, the football guys tend to know what everyone else is doing in the draft. However, when I looked at the talent that McGahee has and the fact that we got Kelsay as well my oipinion became one of .... if McGahee really is THAT good and the docs are right then this could be a great draft..... While I take nothing from McGahee as he has amazed me by his strength and power more than razzle dazazle, this was still a dumb pick as we really needed D help in that draft and we had a Pro Bowl RB and that was a unnecessary gamble for a team that had much greater immediate needs. What if he had never recovered from his knee? We'd still be on Henry's jock about how hard and courageuous RB we have in him. Considering our draft plans anyway it was a gutsy call with a small risk (ie: if Kelsay would not still be there which was seen as very unlikely), not a flukey gamble. Calling sports writers/reporters "experts" is labeling them incorrectly. They're expertise is in the field of journalism (i.e. - reporting) and writing. Most sports writers are nothing more than jock wannabes who happened to make their way through a few creative writing courses and received a degree in journalism. A few were actually good athletes, but that shouldn't give them any more creedence regarding issues that are not fact based. Are their weekly picks any better than ours? No. Are their opinions regarding draft and free agent propspects any more valid than ours? No. The only difference is that they have a bigger audience. Too much stock is placed in the quasi-celebrity status of reporters (sports and otherwise). It's true that some have better access and inside info that the fans only get from their reports, but their opinions are just that - opinions - no better or worse than the average moron expressing his/her views in this forum. There will always be a fair share of "I told you so's" and "oops, guess I goofed on tha one". That's what makes the dialogue interesting. How boring would it be if we all held the exact same views.
