Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Now that we need a new ILB coach I think Mike Singletary would make a great addition to our staff. Really didn't like him as a head coach but I think he could instill some fire and nastiness which we haven't had since Shane Conlan (are you listening Poz).
Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 MS needs to simmer down some. true but it worked when he was a position coach.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 MS needs to simmer down some. Personally, I think he would be a great college coach. His intensity is more suited for college kids than the pros IMO.
Geno Smith's Arm Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 guys don't often (if ever) go from head coach to position coach.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 guys don't often (if ever) go from head coach to position coach. It's not common, that's for sure. Oddly enough, the most recent person to do so is Dick Jauron who is defensive backs coach for the Eagles.

Mike Singletary is interviewing with the Vikings for a LBing coach position. He has an association with the HC, Frazier, from their Chicago playing days. When the Ravens had an opening they interviewed Singletary for the HC position. They ultimately decided to hire Harbaugh, which turned out to be a good decision. The organization felt that Sigletary was too hardnosed and inflexible to deal with today's type of player. They were wise in their assessment. Edited January 9, 2011 by JohnC

Maddog69 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 guys don't often (if ever) go from head coach to position coach. I disagree. This happens all the time. Jauron,Crennel, Weis, Mularkey, Wade Phillips, Greg Williams, Mike Nolan, Jim Fassel, Jim Haslett. Just to name a few. The league is littered with guys with head coaching experience.
Bob in STL Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) guys don't often (if ever) go from head coach to position coach. Dick Jauron did. Edited January 9, 2011 by Bob in STL
Beerball Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 guys don't often (if ever) go from head coach to position coach. Mike Mularkey went from HC of the Bills to OC in Miami to TE coach & then to OC in Atlanta.
bills_red Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 If we get Singletary as our ILB coach we just got a whole lot better on D.
NoSaint Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 If we get Singletary as our ILB coach we just got a whole lot better on D. I almost wonder if we just signed him at LB if we'd get better.
JohnC Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Was singletary ever a DC? If so very short lived. I think he also was the rare position coach to jump to head. I don't believe he was. Singletary was not known for his sophisticated and well rounded approach. There was little nuance to him for a HCing position which requires a lot of nuance. He made a very lucrative living as a fire and brimstone motivational speaker. The Ravens, a very smart organization with one of the most accomplished GMs in the game, Ozzie Newsome, recognized that he didn't have the full complement of attributes necessary to be a successful HC. Smart organizations make smart decisions.

Ever Since '86 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Love singletary minus the whole cross and jesus saves bologna... don't think it would be attractive to him though
Sisyphean Bills Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Mooning players makes them better tacklers.
ExWNYer Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 MS needs to simmer down some. I think they're talking about Singletary about 2:53 in... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/15056/
