zow2 Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 the merriman interview is a-ight, but more i'm more intrigued by the content in segment 10 which, according to the accompanying summary, contains a "chick who banged an HVAC guy, more calls." Yeah, the Junkies are definitely a sports and sex talk kinda' show. You should hear the segment they do every once in a while called "whore or bore". Pretty good stuff. I was also impressed with Merriman's interview. You half expect a roided out egomaniac and your typical douchebag athlete...but he seems like a real good dude. I'm more excited to have him in Buffalo after hearing this and will root hard for him to get back on the field and also help out the other LBs.

Aside from Willis "baby daddy baby daddy baby daddy baby daddy" McGahee, who was a total tard, there are a LOT of players who come to realize how many positive aspects there are to playing for the Bills. It's pretty rare that someone is just dying to get out of here. Even now, you have Poz saying how much he wants to say...Florence saying that he's hoping to stay...etc. TKO loved it here, Bledsoe loved it here (at first lol), TO has had a lot of positive things to say, the list goes on and on. And having lived in Western NY for over ten years myself, I understand exactly why they feel this way. Maybe downtown B-lo is a bit of a hole, but that general area is a beautiful part of the country and there are a lot of really good people there. On top of that, the Ralph is always rockin', and we're one of the most passionate and loyal fan bases in all of sports. Not so long ago (within the past 10 years), I seem to recall a certain high profile soon to be FA LB that was excited by the possibility of being signed by the Bills based on what he saw at RWS.

I was at the finale that year when the Bengals were at the Ralph. The entire stadium was cheering for TKO.

ajzepp Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 what i have mentioned a couple times around here is that the bills medical staff has had a chance to evaluate merriman since they claimed up a couple months back. they must actually believe he can get healthy and back to being a productive lb. could you imagine if we just signed him in the spring after a simple physical? I wonder if it's the same staff we've had for a while....if so, they're batting .333 Marcus Jones? Fail Baby Daddy McGahee? Pass Sam Cowart? Fail Shawne Merriman? ?

It's unlikely he got any good feelers from anyone else and jumped at the "best bet". That being said, I think this is still a low risk and good move. If he works out, it could help turn our defense around tremendously. If he doesn't, it wasn't that expensive of a risk (relative to the NFL heh). This is all under the assumption that Ralph/FO will make more moves in the off season to shore up our defense, and not just put all of our money on this move. *crosses fingers* Edited January 6, 2011 by Dorkington

He could have waited for the season to actually end and other teams start sniffing around for free agents.

This is assuming there are no indications, or feelers sent out by other teams before the period officially opens. I obviously don't know his mindset, but I do know most people make their employment decisions based on finances. To me this says he was hearing just about zero when it comes to the free agent market, and went with the sure thing/familiar territory vs risking the open market and falling through the cracks. The Bills might not have signed him if he rejected their offer to enter into FA.

He's honest about not wanting to sign w/ Buffalo at 0-8 but now that he's been around the team,,,his perception of the organization has totally changed in a positive way. Good stuff. And as for Marcus Jones, he was a street FA with little in the way of downside, since he cost the team nothing. And outside of a decent year and a half in in his 6+ seasons with the Bucs, he was considered a bust more than anything else. I doubt he got any concrete numbers from anyone, seeing as how he's still under contract with the Bills and that would be tampering. And it's not like $2.5M guaranteed total is a great offer.

Most definitely, considering how badly he ripped the Bungles, yet didn't say a bad thing about the Bills. Not to mention he said as much prior to the Bills game, when he said he was open to returning, but Gailey thought he was done.

I'm not trying to say I don't like this signing...I love it! I wasn't trying to say you didn't like it. But TD ran the show and if he wanted Cowart back, he would have re-signed him. It was very apparent after he returned to the Bills from his injury that he wasn't close to the player he once was.

He did make an effort to sign him...cowart and/or his agent never got it worked out.
