mead107 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 The diet starts on Monday. I am going to try and I do say try, not to have any wine for 30 days. I will try not to have any thing on the wife's birthday. I will be drinking watching the game.

Since you make a distinction between "wine" for the month and "anything" on your wife's birthday, can I assume you may consume anything other than wine all month (with the exception of your wife's birthday)? Beer ok? Booze ok?
mead107 Posted January 2, 2011 Author Posted January 2, 2011 No booze, Nothing. I can not remember the last time I did that.
The Dean Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 No booze, Nothing. I can not remember the last time I did that. I wish you (and Sage) luck. Sincerely.
KD in CA Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Could I go 30 days without a drink? I certainly hope not!!!
BLZFAN4LIFE Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I only drink on special occasions and days ending in y.
The Senator Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 No booze, Nothing. I can not remember the last time I did that. I do it every few months now - went all of October without, then had one beer on my Dad's 84th birthday (Halloween), then did it all over again until Thanksgiving - lost 30 pounds last year, and cutting back on alcohol played a huge part. But I will admit - while I don't miss the booze or the beer all that much, giving up the wine is a bit more of a sacrifice. Those 30 days will pass quickly. Good luck.

I wonder how some Ocean Spray Diet grape juice and ginger ale mixed together would taste. KRC Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I go three months every year without alcohol. Religious observances (Buddhism). Full moon in July through the full moon in October.

EndZoneCrew Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Make sure you just sniff some rubber cement before ALL and I mean ALL Buffalo sporting events

Yep I need to drop 10 to 15 pounds and slicing alcohol out of the picture is the easiest way to take calories out of my diet. I started on the wagon yesterday and will remain on it until I hit my weight goal. BTW this is not a New Year's resolution thing. For many years I have kept my weight in a reasonably narrow range. If I hit the top end I do stuff like this to keep it where it needs to be.

Start training tomorrow for a half ironman, so no booze during hte week for first 30 days, as I need to drop some weight quick. But Friday and Saturday and of course wine. Once I have dropped the 20 i need, then occasional wine with dinner during week and two beers with a Sabre game. This plan had me getting in great shape last year...but man that first 30 with no booze during the week was HARD!!!!!

I do the same when I ' plateau ' (though I tend to play with a 30-40 pound yo-yo, something my heart doctor wants me to stop doing) - eliminating the non-nutritional calories from alcohol is about the most effective way to jump-start weight loss. This thread has inspired me - to take off the holiday pounds, I think I'll abstain until my birthday (Feb 1).

I'm glad you said it that way, instead of using the trite and misguided "empty calories". They are not empty! They may not have nutritional value, but they are chock FULL of great taste and good cheer.
