John McClain, the highly respected football writer for the Houston Chronicle is reporting that in spite of never leading his team to the playoffs, and repeated late-season swoons, Gary Kubiak will stay on as Head Coach of the Houston Texans.

The plan is to hire Wade Phillips as Defensive Coordinator. This will purportedly give the Texans two masterminds to guide the team…Kubiak for the offense and Phillips for the defense.

That's all fine and dandy but am I the only one who thinks that putting two laid-back, easygoing coaches together is not a good idea?

Tough to say who should be held accountable in Houston. Is it Kubiak's fault that they have a horrible secondary? That killed them this year. On the other hand, they sure looked flat a couple times early in games and the head coach should be responsible for that.

They have a lot of talent, but people in Houston have to be getting tired of of saying "next year" about this team.

Chronically underachieving team points to the HC.

One would have thought they'd poach George Edwards.

Now, now--Edwards is a fully qualified DC. He just doesn't have the talent to work with, you see.

It's just surprising the Bills didn't give him an extension in September -- he was really coming along in his development as a DC, you know.

After week 4 or 5 I remember watching Monday highlight show on ESPN and Tom Jackson was picking the Texans to win the Super Bowl. :)

The Bills and Texans have been equally mediocre for the last decade (or since the texans came into the league). But what's funny is hearing the constant excuses from the pundits about how close the texans are-- they just need a real #2 WR, they just need a legit TE, they just need that pass-rushing DE, they just need a pass rusher to compliment Williams, etc.

Consider the talent on that roster--e.g., Schwab, Foster, Johnson, Daniels, Williams, Cushing, Dunta Robinson-- this team should be in the playoffs.

Wades results as a DC speaks for itself. He will make that defense a great defense...They have many possible play makers on that team on defense.

Man, having a recent former head coach as your DC doesn't give Kubiak much of a leash before he could be replaced by Phillips.

The Cowboys, Falcons, Bills, Broncos, and Saints all thought so at some point

And, his average length of stay on the job is less than 2 seasons. But looking at the bright side, I guess you could say there are still 27 franchises left that need to figure it out first hand...

Dunta Robinson signed with the Falcons this offseason.
