realtruelove Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 We're all coming into town from all parts of US. Looking for a bonding experience and some R rated entertainment. Can't go to Canada because some of my nimrod sons don't have their passports. Any suggestions?
WVUFootball29 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Can always check out the casino in Niagara Falls along with Mints for that kind of stuff. For my party we went to Pearl Street for dinner and to watch the Sabres game and some bar games then hit the Chip Strip for a while along with a few dive bars.
buffalomike Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Don't worry about the passport. You will be able to cross and get back in.
The Dean Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Don't worry about the passport. You will be able to cross and get back in. Quite possibly, but not for sure. I wouldn't plan the evening not knowing what situation you might encounter at the border. But hey, that's me.
WVUFootball29 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 True deano but it could turn into a great story
realtruelove Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 Don't worry about the passport. You will be able to cross and get back in. Please explain. I thought that you now needed a passport. What do we tell them at the border? "Don't worry, you can trust us, we're from Buffalo."

"Don't worry, you can trust us, we're from Buffalo." As of June 1, 2009 all US citizens are required to have a passport or passport equivalent in order to enter Canada. http://gocanada.about.com/od/canadatraveloverview/qt/uscitizenborder.htm Do people occasionally get across without a passport? I suppose some do. But I would never count on it. The law REQUIRES it.

realtruelove Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 Your days of"buying"ID are over? Sucks to get old Perhaps I could talk my way into Canada with gift of gab and after that, who cares if it takes a couple of days to get back into the US. Plus it would make a better movie than Hangover, right Fat Santa?
HopsGuy Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Tiajuana I don't think he wants to go to Cattaraugus County.
The Dean Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Your days of"buying"ID are over? Sucks to get old Hardly. It just gets more expensive. This past spring I needed to get a passport. I brought in the Birth Certificate I have been using all my life (including as ID to get into Canada before passports were required) and was told that what I had wasn't a REAL Birth Certificate. So I had to get one from Albany. Since I needed it quickly I had to expedite it, and pay the increased fee of course. By the time I got it, I needed to also expedite the passport if I wanted it in time. So of course, an additional fee was charged. That last ID cost me over $200.

I say that's a small price to pay to run with the Tall Dogs at the Ballet, wouldn't you say? How long did it take to process this way? Do you think you could hook a brother up?

Same thing for me last year for the home opener. I had been putting off getting the passport (for no reason?) Then my Birth Cert wasn't in good enough condition, so I paid the crazy fee to get a new one fast, then paid the crazy fee to get the passport fast. The wife and I picked up our passports in Toronto (because there wasn't time to mail them) on Friday afternoon and headed to Buffalo for Sundays game. Got to the boarder and the guy says "how old are these"? I said about an hour or so....he gave them back to us and said "you are supposed to sign them you know". oops. Thanks!
sullim4 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Do people occasionally get across without a passport? I suppose some do. But I would never count on it. The law REQUIRES it. The law also states that CBP must admit US citizens under any circumstances - they cannot turn you around for lack of ID if you claim to be a US citizen. The problem one runs into without a passport is that the officer has to determine that you are who you say you are. Depending on the whims of the individual officer, that can take 10 minutes, or 10 hours, during which time you're in a holding tank waiting for them to sort you out. Oh the stories you read about unfortunate souls on Flyertalk .

I believe they have been denying entrance to Canada for any US Citizen with a DWI (not me, but I have friends who have had issues). I believe they have to let you back to the US, but not into Canada.

It sounds to me like legally, neither the US or Canada can deny you entrance to their country and this stupid passport rumor is just to scare people from even attempting it.
