Marc in MontrÈal Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 "In addition to a return game that has netted the Buffalo Bills five runbacks for touchdowns this season, the kick coverage units are much improved, and a big part of that has been the play of onetime starting safety Coy Wire. The three-year veteran, who overcame his disappointment at losing his starting job and turned himself into a superior cover player, has also been nominated for the prestigious Whizzer White (Humanitarian) Award." http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=1942476 Last par. of Pasquarelli's column Marc "shovellin' snow" in Montréal PS: Dont know if that info was posted earlier
Simon Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 A huge tip 'o' the cap to Wire. He may not be the world's greatest athlete, but I really admire guys that earn themselves NFL jobs with guts and determination. He really is a fine young man and I hope he sticks on the Bills roster for a long long time.
KurtGodel77 Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 When I first saw the title of that award, I thought it was a joke.
Alaska Darin Posted December 12, 2004 Posted December 12, 2004 When I first saw the title of that award, I thought it was a joke. 156353[/snapback] Whizzer White was a terrific running back for the Steelers many moons ago. He left football as a Rhodes Scholar, returned and led the league in rushing. He also happened to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States for 30 years. Really interesting man.
