Chef Jim Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 call this a smeer job,but lou reed is incontinent. oh, sorry, inconsistent. jw And with this post we could say the same about you.
The Dean Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 call this a smeer job,but lou reed is incontinent. oh, sorry, inconsistent. jw He is inconsistent. I think that's actually part of his charm.
Cugalabanza Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 (edited) He is inconsistent. I think that's actually part of his charm. Yes it is. His charm also lies in his often bizarre wording. He has a lyric quality that is sometimes so blatantly direct and simplistic-seeming, that it makes me laugh. I tend to think of it as "blurt-y." It's sort of an affectation of a dumb guy (which Lou is certainly NOT) just dumbly saying what he wants to say with absolutely zero pretention. I can understand why many people do not like him, but I really appreciate his shtick... "I guess I'm just dumb, 'cause I know I ain't smart, but deep down inside, I got a rock 'n' roll heart." "I watched it for a little while. I love to watch things on TV." "Just a perfect day feed animals in the zoo then later a movie too and then home" "I thought I was someone else...someone good" "We're gonna have a real good time together." "you're so vicious When I watch you comin' I just have to run You're not good and you certainly aren't very much fun" "But she never lost her head Even when she was givin' head" etc... rockpile Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 "Transformer" came out when I was about 18, and is still one of my favorite albums!
BuffaloBill Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 In all the music discussions that go on around here, I never see mention of Lou Reed. I believe he is deserving of legendary status. I've long been familiar with the Velvet Underground stuff and many of Lou's "best of" solo songs, but recently I've been filling out my vinyl collection with some of his classic early solo albums... Transformer (of course), Berlin, Rock and Roll Heart, Blue Mask Legendary Hearts, Sally Can't Dance, Street Hassle. They hold up very well as albums. That is all, thank you. Lou Reed.
Pete Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Well americans don't care for much of anything Land and water the least And animal life is low on the totem pole With human life not worth more than infected yeast Americans don't care too much for beauty They'll **** in a river, dump battery acid in a stream They'll watch dead rats wash up on the beach And complain if they can't swim They say things are done for the majority Don't believe half of what you see and none of what you hear It's like what my painter friend donald said to me Stick a fork in their ass and turn them over, they're done
Kelly the Dog Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Heroin and Sweet Jane and a few others are obvious. As a concept album when they were going completely out of style, I loved "New York". Inconsistent, as jw says, but a really good album and a lot of terrific moments.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 About 6 months ago I had a thread on him going. I'm a big fan.
