KD in CA Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Well....I certainly agree with the implied but obviously unintended characterization of Cam Newton as a White Elephant. Maybe you ought to look that one up in the dictionary.
mikey98277 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 For many years Bills fans have not only wanted a great quarterback, but they have wanted to LIKE their quarterback. They wanted him to be smart, down to earth, and classy, a family man and preferably Irish-Catholic. Ryan Fitzpatrick, if he becomes “great” will fit this mold. I think it is natural to want your sports heroes to have “character”. Cam Newton is not smart, not down to earth, not classy, not a family man, and certainly not Irish-Catholic. Maybe this is why so many of you fans are against drafting him. Character is nice, but it does not necessarily win football games. Draft Newton if he is available because he is the best chance the Bills have to save the franchise your right i cannot believe how often I hear on this board that we need and Irish-Catholic QB around here, oh wait this is the first, I normally dont say much about a persons opinion, but this has to be one of the dumbest bigot post I have seen in awhile.
Bills99999 Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Oh Dear God this thread just started weak and got worse every post. If I was the Mod i'd have pronounced this one dead a long time ago. It's like a bunch of A.D.D. drunk chicks that should've gone to bed three hours ago. Speakin of which. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Great idea...Shut down the thread Bury your head in the sand like a stork
Green Lightning Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Rex Ryan??? You mean the guy whose team starts a second-generation mexican American QB? So why are you hating on the Irish? And you can vouch that Newton's gonna save the Bills? He looks to be a Maybin who can pass. It takes more than physical tools to be a NFL'er.
Meathead Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 ok on a serious note lets not be losing our minds. censoring discussions like this aint gonna do nobody no damn good. thats what weve dont for decades and how has that worked out? stop being threatened by open discussions about race. this is stuff that needs to be processed so we can move forward in a healthy manner

I am not hating the Irish I am Irish I just want everybody to set aside thier personal preferences about WHO the QB is and get a QB who can get the job done ok on a serious note lets not be losing our minds. censoring discussions like this aint gonna do nobody no damn good. thats what weve dont for decades and how has that worked out? stop being threatened by open discussions about race. this is stuff that needs to be processed so we can move forward in a healthy manner I never said anything about race I just want the best QB
KOKBILLS Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 As far as the nonsense you posted, I think people just want the Bills to win no matter what their QB looks like. Personally, I think Fitzpatrick is fine and allows the Bills to build in other areas of need. Fitz is 11-22-1 as an NFL Starter... Just saying...
Captain Hindsight Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I never said that You sure as hell implied it. Drinking or not there is no place for that. Ive never heard one thing on this board in the years ive visted about religon, race or anyhing like that having anything to do with qb play and you put it in your first sentence. I was disgusted by your post and every time i read it now im still disgusted. No place for that here at all. If you want to talk about why cam newton is going to be a good football player that has something to with sports and the game of football, i'm here for that. But the min its gets into race or religon, youve crossed a line.

So be it, but I still make valid points on why many fans will not welcome Newton and race is only part of it What about that unidentified Notre Dame player who was accused of raping the girl who committed suicide. You would not want him either, even if he was innocent even if he was the best player in college football, regarless of his race The NFL is not a tryout for Eagle Scouts As far as I am concerned, the Bills could draft Charles Manson as long as he could play football Look at the way the Bills hired off-duty Hamburg cops to follow Bruce Smith around trying to catch him buying cocaine because he had the NERVE to complain about some racist hate mail he was getting. There were plenty of players using cocaine back then, and nobody hired cops to follow them around Get a dose of reality, people
Sabre Bill Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) So this is really about James Harris and the late 60's, early seventies?? And even though the Bills drafted Harris (and obtained Briscoe - the only other black QB at the time) the whole Bills fanbase is somehow bigoted and really only want Irish Catholic QB's?? Whatever you're drinking please set it down and back away slowly --- it's a highly dangerous bottle of 100 proof STUPID ! :wallbash: :wallbash: Edited December 15, 2010 by Sabre Bill
Cynical Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Are you talking about Cam Newton, hiesman winner from Auburn??? He's not Havard but everyone says has great football IQ, down to earth like celebrating every win in the student section with his fans, not classy?, Auburn is a classy school IMO(great traditions, songs), not a family man? All he does is thank his family and god for his achievements. Black Irish. Excuse me while I LMAO. Their football program has been nabbed 6-7 times by the NCAA for major infractions The schools one national title claim is clouded by the fact Auburn was serving a post season suspension - for paying players Pat Dye, who is held in high regard by Auburn and their faithful, was forced out of his position because his coaching staff was caught on tape arranging payment to players and for promoting racism even as late as the early 90's. When the 2004 team failed to make the BCS national championship game, Auburn fans created their own National Champion Award, and called it the People's National Champion. Despite not "officially" claiming or recognizing the People's National Championship, the school did go out and buy rings for the team, celebrating said "national championship". About 5-6 years ago, the school had to serve a 1 year accreditation probation. About 2-3 years ago, Auburn was exposed for grade fixing student athlete's school records. And the fans toilet paper the town when the Tiger's win a game. Cheating, racism, and vandalism = Auburn tradition and class

qdawg in philly Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 It took an awful long time to make your point, but I gather that you think the Bills MUST draft Cam Newton, otherwise the team will wallow in mediocrity until the end of time. I'm curious. Why? Please offer some statistical reason, or sound logic. Saying that Bills fans don't want Cam Newton because he's not "Irish Catholic" is not a compelling reason. And it's insulting. Also, "elephant in the room" is an English idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed. It is based on the idea that an elephant in a room would be impossible to overlook; thus, people in the room who pretend the elephant is not there have made a choice to concern themselves with tangential or small and irrelevant issues rather than deal with the looming big one. A "white elephant" is an idiom for a valuable possession which its owner cannot dispose of and whose cost (particularly upkeep) is out of proportion to the possession's usefulness or worth.A burdensome possession; creating more trouble than it is worth. Since Cam Newton is not yet a "possession" of the Bills, he can't be the "big white elephant in the room." Just saying. Thanx for the info! No sarcasm at all! For many years Bills fans have not only wanted a great quarterback, but they have wanted to LIKE their quarterback. They wanted him to be smart, down to earth, and classy, a family man and preferably Irish-Catholic. Ryan Fitzpatrick, if he becomes “great” will fit this mold. And what the hell does irish-catholic have to do with anything? What a stupid post!

My point exactly, but most Bills fans would rather draft a QB from Holy Cross or Georgetown Hell, if canisius College still had football, they would draft their QB in the 4th round as if a Jesuit education has something to do with being a good NFL QB Edited December 15, 2010 by Bills99999

purple haze Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Newton Classy??? His father shopped him around for cash His father was a part time storefront preacher who now suddenly has gotten the money to build a "mega-church" Auburn a classy program??? Like the booster who took the players to his friend's Casino where they were set up with private slot machines that won on EVERY pull of the lever Wait until after the bowl games and Auburn gets the NCAA "death sentence". Newton will be off making money in the NFL when that happens Newton's father is a greddy Elmer Gentryesque charlatan and the apple does not fall far from the tree That does not mean the Bills should not draft Newton because he can make them winners By the way, if Bills fans were not so hung up on "image", we could have signed Michael Vick and we would be headed to the playoffs this year Dude or Dudette, how old are you? You say Newton's not classy, but then talk about his father. His father is one person. Cam Newton is a separate person. Come on now. Edited December 15, 2010 by purple haze
TH3 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Whelp - I have been thinking about what I believe the original poster tried, rather clumsily, to say. There is no doubt that there is a very real chance that CN can be a bigger faster more durable Michael Vick - and IF that is the case whoever gets him is going to be a force no matter what. He can make up for injured OLines and create offense that AL can't. CN MIGHT be the best QB in decades. I really don't care about his laptop, his dad either. Who cares, do the people in Pittsburgh care as BR grits his way through wins? I think the gorilla is the CONCEPT of drafting CN. I think he is very near he top in passing accurancy in the toughest conference with the toughest schedule in college. He lead his team from ahead and behind against top rated teams all year - and I think if it weren't for the brushes with the law - he would be the concensus #1 pick. One has to seriously contemplate drafting him if avaiable.
