I didn't care for it...it was a bit of a leap how it was all wrapped up.

Spoiler alert: he stole a car from the area of a crime scene, drove it to the lake flipped it...yet nobody questioned WTF a stolen car was doing there?

Thanks...I was going to say the same thing, I just didn't want to be a buzz kill. I think I am the only person I know, who wathces this show, and doesn't love it. I liked the first season a lot...I have liked this show a little less each season...there is a certain amount of belief you have to suspend, but it has gone past reasonable, for me...the sister has to be the dumbest person alive, despite her smarts! And, the dialouge has gotten progressively worse...like they have to explain what is going on, constantly, with the dialouge. I really liked this show at the begining, I just wish it was more nuanced and subtle...it just seems to get further away from that...the last 20 minutes of last night's show were particularly brutal, IMO...the wiritng, as your example illustrates, has gotten sloppier and sloppier...

Next season...

Good season, but the end seemed abrupt and perfunctory to me.

To me, that has always been the weakness of this show. They do a great job of building up the suspense, but they seem to have this incessant need to have each season wrap up too tidy...almost like a Skooby-Doo resolution. The writing, and acting, suffer from it. I realize, when they wrote the first season, they didn't know how long they would be on, but it would have been nice if the storyline with Dexter's brother had kind of permeated the whole run of the series...sort of like the one-armed man on The Fugitive...I thought this season started out really well, but kind of fizzled...

We watched the season finale last night and I basically said the same thing to my fiance. The way this season wrapped up, they could almost start all over fresh next season. Last season there was a bit of cliffhanger with how Dexter was going to move on, the kids, etc... This season started strong as you had a cliffhanger from last season, but as you say it did fizzle and ended so clean...it was really disappointing; they did nothing to have me yearing for next year (yes I will watch but still....)

This season was good. Another sloppy note was Lumens fiancé. Pointless dead end character. He probably had a role that ended on the editing floor. Right where he should have stayed. Also though a good idea, I never felt convinced by Chases motivational hold on the men.

I thought seasons 1-4 were excellent. Especially 4, Lithgow was incredible.

However I thought this season was very mediocre.

I agree with the previous posters about the stolen car thing. Seemed like another example of the poor writing this season as compared to others. It was too easy in a lot of episodes to poke holes in what was going on and Dexter was much too sloppy to keep buying luck is what is saving him again and again.

Hopefully next season can raise the bar again.

Yeah...I don't think any of Dexter's protagonists are ever developed in a believable way, including John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits. I thought his best nemesis was Dokes, way back in the first and second seasons...and the Brit chick he was with (can't remember her name now) was a bit more interesting than anything after. But again, even then, they tacked an end on to the season two finale, where Dexter flies to Paris to kill her...why the rush?
