Beerball Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I watched today's game at a sports bar since I'm away from home. The Green Bay game was on the next screen and I caught a play that surprised me. Rodgers rolled out to his right and threw a pass that fell incomplete, but there was a flag for illegal contact on one of the Detroit DBs. After a conference the refs waved off the penalty because Rodgers was outside the pocket. I've watched plenty of football, but I never knew that there was no illegal contact if the QB was outside the pocket. Am I the only one who didn't know this?

JayD Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Yeah when ever the QB is out of the pocket there can be contact because of his ability to scramble
NoSaint Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Don't know, but he wasn't flushed from the pocket, it was a planned rollout. That should make no difference in the rule. The refs would have to know the qbs presnap intentions etc to be able to call it differently. I know it sounds obvious but especially with these roughness calls you see how people hate any judgement instead of black and white
