BillsFanNC Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Wow. The whole damn thing is down! Very lucky nobody was hurt or killed.
KD in CA Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 NFL might move the game. Maybe the Giants will get another free home game like after Hurricane Katrina.
High Mark Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 holy crap, I figured it would be a section of the roof - not the entire dome! Is that roof like the roof of a bubble where its inflated? In other photos it doesnt look very structural. If its a bubble top it shouldnt be as big an issue.
WWVaBeach Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 What the hell? Clean up the mess and call it an outdoor game. That's how football was meant to be played anyway.

Beerball Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 There are at least 2 tears in the bubble so it's not as simple as 'reinflating' it. I would imagine that they won't do anything until the weather improves. Side note...does this help or hurt the Vikings ability to get a new stadium?
Drifter Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Brilliant job by the architects and engineers. Lots of snow in Minnesota who would have thought it could happen?
papazoid Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 i would check on the whereabouts of Brett Favre at the time of the collapse.....it wouldn't surprise me if he shot a hole in it or something to give himself more time to get ready.....lol
Fezmid Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Brilliant job by the architects and engineers. Lots of snow in Minnesota who would have thought it could happen? It actually doesn't snow like this very often. I've lived here since '94, and this is by far the most snow we've had in a single storm. Apparently there was a similar storm in '91 that occurred on Halloween -- but since it wasn't that cold out, everything melted a day or two later. It's freezing here now (0F, windchills of -30F), so this snow isn't going anywhere for awhile.

judman Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Brilliant job by the architects and engineers. Lots of snow in Minnesota who would have thought it could happen? Minnesota does not usually get "big dumps" of snow. The 17 inches that fell yesterday was ranked 4th in record snowfall totals for the twin cities. Minnesota is usually dry and extremely cold. I know in Syracuse they take precautions for large snowfall events with the Carrier Dome. If memory serves they have actually deflated the Carrier Dome on purpose with large storms. Anyway, that sucker held almost 4 ft of snow last week. From www.sports-venue.info: "Syracuse receives significant lake-effect snows every winter from Lake Ontario. During periods of high snowfall, the Dome will be closed and the roof fully deflated to protect it from collapse under the weight of fallen snow. However, modifications after installation of a new roof in 1999 allow it to reach higher temperatures. The new roof has never been deflated."
billsfaninvgs Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Maybe they do need a new Stadium.....
sir andrew Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Anybody know what network has that game?

I would think that since large snowfalls have occurred before, someone would plan for this contingency when designing a structure of that size. The Superdome was built to withstand hurricane force winds for a reason.
Mike in Syracuse Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 So let me get this straight. They built a domed stadium in Minnesota that wasn't capable of withstanding 17 inches of snow? BRILLIANT We got 58 inches of snow in Syracuse last week. Carrier Dome is still sitting pretty.
RJ (not THAT RJ) Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Maybe they do need a new Stadium..... Would I be to cynical if I suggested that ownership may be dragging its heels on maintenance in order to improve the case for a new stadium, and this was the unplanned but not necessarily undforeseeable result?

Fezmid Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Anybody know what network has that game? Both teams are NFC, so it's FOX.
