When they were first putting them in they tried to sell it to the reluctant public by saying how hassle free it would be and that it would lower costs for the banks because they wouldn't have to hire more tellers to handle additional business. Nanker
Yes! And do away with the entrenched age and sex discrimination and class warfare practices like Senior Citizen's discounts, Ladies Admitted Free Night at all club and student discounts. Let's not forget the comps that Vegas is famous for. Make the bastages pay! NO FREE LUNCH! Also, while they're at it, "they" should outlaw discount coupons, sales of any and every kind including food, clothes, cars, boats - you name it. Think of the tax revenue that's lost to the states and the federal government when a sale is registered for less than bust-out-retail! That must add up to billions if not trillions of dollars in LOST REVENUE FOR THE GOVERNMENT. How unfair that a bunch of tax-chiseling black market racketeers conspire to evade paying their full and fair share of taxes. Our governments have plans for that money and it's your constitutional obligation to give them as much as they can take - and then some.
Chef Jim
One of the best things about moving to SF are the letters to the editor in the Chronicle. These "progressives" have some brilliant ideas.
OCinBuffalo
Another example of: "Let's suggest anything, anything at all, however ridiculous... ...as long as it keeps us from having to admit that our ideology is patently retarded, and, that the problems facing governments the world over are directly due to that failed ideology". -Progressives
ExiledInIllinois
It does kind of piss me off that the banks charge for ATM usage. When they were first putting them in they tried to sell it to the reluctant public by saying how hassle free it would be and that it would lower costs for the banks because they wouldn't have to hire more tellers to handle additional business. So true... Banks are basically "taxing" customers now that many like the the convenience. Also, why do ATMs and paper checks clear first over check card/debit purchases? Shouldn't the order be from low to high?... But debit card purchases clear last... MORE FEES when a person screws up. Of course don't screw your checkbook up... But if an error is made, people pay dearly for using the conveniences. What do people suggest in order to rid corporations of destructive behavior? More tax "breaks"... Come on, we all know they don't work... The more breaks you give, the more people/business socks away One of the best things about moving to SF are the letters to the editor in the Chronicle. These "progressives" have some brilliant ideas. What do you suggest against destructive behavior? Self-serve should be lowering costs... Why are the costs and fees going up? Tech should be lowering costs like it does in many areas. Maybe the two states in the Union where you can't pump your own gas (NJ and OR) got it right. Those two states actually argue that costs of doing business and the amount passed on to the customer GOES UP when there is self-serve... Something about insurance etc... etc... Isn' the old joke in Oregon when a baby is born, the doc slaps them on the ass and says: "No self-serve for you!" The problem is, when a company has somebody over a barrel... They will charge. To an extent I am cool with that. Yet, there is a point where it becomes destructive and we are crossing into that land.
