The passing of this bill would force sites such as Pokerstars and Full Tilt from operating in the U.S. for 15 months before they can obtain a license.

The online poker community has been trying to get poker legalized and regulated in the U.S. for many years now, but I don't think this is what they had in mind.

"Should it become law, online poker sites wishing to operate in the US would be forced to obtain a five-year operating license and pay 20% tax on all deposits."

20% on deposits? Really??? Yeah, whatever.

Thats brutal. Who cares if some people want to play card from their homes. What a waste of tax dollars to regulate this garbage. There are internet crimes happening daily; fraud, sex offenders, identity theft. And they want to mess with the US citizen who plays poker from the privacy of their own home. just figure out how you can tax them and be done with it....

The first license would not be issued for 15 months with current grey-market operators like PokerStars and Full Tilt being forced to cease activity in the US.

For the first two years, licenses would only be issued to current US casino or race track operators and casino slot machine manufacturers.

Casino campaign contributions to Reid is all.

You think that's bad, just look at what NY State has done to some gamblers on their taxes. Any NYS resident who ends up gambling online can end up like these people:

Hi futility, have we met? There is always a way around this stuff, especially on the internet.

The best example is here in NC. They banned video poker so they called it online sweepstakes. Which means, they have computers contected to the internet where they play from a remote location. Than, the state just closed that loophole. So, by the time that ban went in to a effect there was already another loophole, and that was similar to how grocery stores give sweepstakes at their stores or contests by radio stations.

The Gov is just looking for more money and squeezing every fruit it can...one day they'll be out of fruit.

I only read the first one, but don't see what the State did wrong there. It looks like a tax cheat tried filing an ammendment under the 'whoops, I meant to say I lost even more than I claimed the first time seeing how I still owed some taxes' statute. I hope they audited the sh-- out of her.

Meanwhile, on another gambling front, NY State finnally shut down OTB yesterday after decades of losing money, leaving you NYS residents with another $600 million pension tab (go unions!)

Friggin gov't can't even run a gambling outfit. Might as well give it back to the mob.

"But problems quickly emerged. OTB became a patronage ground and infamous for loose spending."

In New York, no way!!!!!!

It's amazing, OTB was a cash cow, and the fricking wolves destroyed it.

Yeah... But you got the comfort of this nice safe nation to protect you and keep you worry-free while playing card from the comfort of your home... That has to cost something?

Think about it... Want to pick up a card or dice game tax-free... You can always go to the back-room/alley and have Vinny and Louie looking over/covering your back... Just check the weapon at the door.

:P

If they will legalize online poker they better have a way to police it. Otherwise it can be jobbed. Happened once already that I heard of.

PTR

B-I-N-G-O! That too... That cost something also...
