they cut him to make room for Rucker, who we were after. Did we pick up Chandler? we also picked up Mike Caussin from Jax this AM

Maybe it was a sneaky move to get Chandler all along!

I was going to post that last night when the Cowboys cut him! Rucker is supposed to be only a pass-catching TE, but has barely seen the field his first 3 years. Chandler OTOH is a good blocker and can play ST's and was a former Chargers draft pick. It's quite possible that the Bills tricked the Cowboys into releasing the guy they really wanted.

Now Buddy's got 5 tight ends on the roster / practic squad. Great!. :w00t: The Pats drafted two rookie tight ends this past April, and either one would be 100% better then all 5 of these talent-challanged Bills' TE's combined.

LMAO!!!!

The last decade or so the Bills' philosophy has been quantity over quality

They weren't going to use a 2nd on a TE, what with their other needs. And in retrospect, going with Hernandez over Easley would have been the better move, but Hernandez was an admitted pot smoker and that probably removed him from many teams' draft boards.

What is this position, TE? Anybody? :D

I think it means the Trent Edwards position, pretty easy position really, at the end of games you just take the snap and run to the sideline any kitty can do it.

Personally I like the season long pre-season thing that Nix has going on. Come in try out, produce or leave. "We will always try to do things to improve the team. We evaluate everyone every week."

Bills claim waived Cowboys TE

So the Bills:

1. Tried to sign TE Rucker off the Cowboys practice squad

2. Cowboys respond with an offer to put Rucker on active roster, which he accepts

3. To make room, the Cowboys waive TE Chandler, with the intent of placing him on practice squad, essentially intending to swap roster spots between Rucker and Chandler

4. Chandler was a draft pick (4th) by the Chargers a few years ago, when Nix was there. From BuffaloBills.com

Did Nix get the man he wanted all along?

This is probably more interesting than the truth, anyway, so why not speculate?

That is a pretty cool scenario, and if that is how it went down Nix pretty clever.

Yeah that is what it looks like, I thought about it too when I read it the first time.

This was my first thought as well when this went down.

Ditto. We're probably just imagining things -- too much free time between Sundays -- but it's fun to imagine our front office being clever. It's a refreshing alternative to being outsmarted in recent years.

Nix would have to offer Rucker a contract, knowing that Rucker's agent would take the bait, that Rucker preferred to stay in Dallas and would have his agent contact the Cowboys, that the Cowboys would also offer Rucker a contract to their 53-man roster, and that the Cowboys would cut precisely the "guy he really wanted all along", and that that player wouldn't be claimed by someone else before the Bills. That's a lot of if's, and's and mind reading of a large number of people. :)
