George Wilson

Armchair GM

Recommended Posts

George came in the game vs. Cinci, and with minimal playing time made a huge impact...making tackles in the box, the big INT, etc. Yet Byrd is still ahead of him on the depth chart. Granted, Byrd is having a prototypical "sophomore slump" season, but George seems to be the better option...Is this an indictment of George Edwards?

Byrd is the better player. Not knocking Wilson at all. But thats just the way it is.

Wilson looks better because he's only in the game in certain situations. And in those situations he only has certain responsibilities, so it seems like he has less "blown plays", but really it's just that he has less chances to look bad.

And for that matter, Byrd hasnt been playing "poorly", just not where he was last year when we had at least a threat of a pass rush.

Our corp of Safeties is great. Byrd, Whitner, Wilson and Scott. Everyone gets playing time. Everyone plays very well.

Focus on the Front 7 and we'll see just how well these guys can do.

Byrd played well yesterday, and his strip of Mendenhall was a huge play and equivalent of a diving timely INT. I think we should try to keep all four safeties.

Not to mention the forced fumble earlier in the game when the officials magically called illegal contact on Marshawn Lynch.

Yeah this isn't the week to pick on Byrd's play. That was the first half of last week and (the one thing I love about Chan) he was sitting the 2nd half. Another thing to consider this year in Byrd's favor is that last years scheme was a zone cover. The responsibilities this year are quite different most of the time. One last thing is he was injured the first half of the year and if you ever had a groin tear, it is a painful injury that stays with you for quite a while.
