Driving and Oxycontin don't mix.

Too funny!

More proof that the media is controlled by the educated--I mean Liberals--huh?

Rush Limbaugh gets into a pissing match with Motor Trend about the Chevy Volt, and you turn it into a political statement about prescription drug abuse in conservatives and hold it up as evidence of the lack of any liberal slant in the press?

This goes beyond stupid into the incomprehensibly bizarre. You hit your head or something?

The only thing that could be more embarrassing than that comment from the editor of Motor Trend would be someone posting a link to it in a thread here and referring to it as a "smack down."

How is you progressives whine and cry because enough isn't done to help people who have problems, but you don't think twice about celebrating someone who mocks a person who has admitted and attempted to overcome a problem? Or do progressives mock ALL people who admit a drug addiction?

I believe he's mocking Limbaugh for being a hypocrite. Which is deliciously ironic.

Why do so many people on the left come off as 12 year olds? What a stupid childish thing to say.

Because we are laughing at people like Limbaugh that act like fourth graders. Typical Limbaugh, going off on a rant about something he knows nothing about. No wonder he is so popular, his ignorance appeals so much to his listeners.

Good one. By the way, since you clearly are in the know, can you explain to me why the Volt is a good choice for car of the year?

Since Rush can't be bothered with partisan details, let's take a peek under the hood.

The Volt absolutely delivers on the promise of the vehicle concept as originally outlined by GM, combining the smooth, silent, efficient, low-emissions capability of an electric motor with the range and flexibility of an internal combustion engine.

And how does that car get its electrical charge? how is most of US electricity produced? Is the waste electrical battery better or worse than the waste of internal combustion emission?

Let's tackle the cost.

This is a super technical compact that you can roll off a showroom floor at a $20k - $25k premium. Let's factor in the $7.5k Uncle Sam giveaway to bring that premium down to an average $15k extra charge to be seen driving this beauty. Using a blended 5 cent/mile fuel cost, this thing will run you $750 over 15K miles of annual driving, assuming you have enough pit stops to recharge the electric.

By contrast you can outfit yourself in a shiny Chevy Cobalt for $17k, get 35mpg of regular stinky gasoline, and run that thing for only $500 more in a year. I think that justifies paying the extra $15k and enjoying the tax break to be the cool kid on the block.

The volt is a good choice for car of the year not because it is the best value or best execution of a car but because it is the precursor to to our driving future.

The economics of owning hybrids don't even start to make sense until gas goes north of $4/gal. The environmentalism of hybrids don't make sense at any price - the most environmentally friendly thing one can do w/r/t automobiles is to keep driving the car they have, since replacing it with a new hybrid incurs the environmental cost of manufacture of the hybrid and disposal of the used car. If one must buy a new car, the most environmentally friendly thing one can do is to buy anything BUT a hybrid, since the overall cradle-to-grave environmental footprint of a hybrid is substantially worse than most any other new car.

Conner will, of course, disagree with that last, because Bill Nye told him that environmentalism is all about carbon out of car tailpipes, and we shouldn't give a **** about things like nickel mining or the additional cement requirements for greater heavy industrial capacity to produce hybrids. But it's true, nonetheless: you want to be environmentally friendly and save money, don't buy a hybrid. You want to be REALLY environmentally friendly and save lots of money, don't buy a new car of any type.

I bet that's suspiciously similar to the citation on Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.

I'm not going to tire of this. It's so easy for a liberal to be a hypocrite.

Rush sure did, so it is hard to feel sorry for him. I thought the reference to his addiction was in poor taste though.
