ICE Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 According to the experts poll at ESPN Adrian Peterson is just 2 points behind Leinart. http://espn.go.com/ncf/heisman/index.html I say no for two reasons. 1) Left coast biased. plus Matt is the 'pretty' pick as I heard one guy state. 2) too much 'he will have two more years to win it' thinking. Who gives a sh-- about 2 years from now? If you feel he is the best now, he wins it now. Personally yeah I'd like to see one of my boys win it, but We won it last year and lost the real prize.
R. Rich Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 The reason the Hypeman is such a joke is because they have all sorts of political 'reasons' why "the best college football player" is always an offensive skill player or a player like Charles Woodson who is a multi-talented player that gets scoring opportunities on special teams and/or offense. I suppose it was only the voters who thought Orlando Pace wasn't the best college football player in the nation his junior year, because everyone else knew it. I mean, 4th behind Jake Plummer, Troy Davis, and their winner, Danny Awful, I mean Danny Wuerffel? Yeah, right! Ask another great player from that time, current Tampa Bay All Pro DE Simeon Rice, how good Pace is. I'm sure he fondly remembers being tossed around like a rag doll when the Illini played the Buckeyes.

Think White would have won last year if the voters knew he would be back for one more year? I think he would have been passed over. Like you say, he'll have another chance... I wonder if there has ever been another year where two players each from two teams were finalists. Lienart/Bush White/Peterson.
DPR4444 Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 not to repeat myself [i posted this on the College Football board], but why is JJ Arrington being ignored? http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=12269

But, they can only have 5 finalists, so I guess someone had to be squeezed out. He should consider himself lucky. The Hypeman isn't all that anymore.
Realist Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I'd love to see Peterson win it, but it will probably be Leinhart. Just because he's a Freshman shouldn't be held against him. That makes the feat that much better.

Who did his team play worth noting? What is their ranking? Look rack up all the numbers you want, but AP has done it against top 25 teams ON THE ROAD and against top ranked defenses. Same with the guys from USC. As for Rich he likes the RB from USC. I counter with Peterson has put up more yardage (or damn near it) as that guy has with Running, Receiving and returns combined. there are many great NCAA Athletes I grant you, but unless you do it against top opponants you aren't going to get the votes. On the Benson note...I hear texASS fans whining all the time here about how he is better than AP. Really? AB is a SENIOR, AP is a true FRESHMAN. On the SAME FIELD AP racks up 225, CB About 98. Nuff said. I mean it is pretty damn bad when a FRESHMAN racks up the numbers you do as a senior.

Actually, as I mentioned earlier, it should go to Peterson, but they'll screw him out of it because he's a freshman, just like Pace got screwed out of it because he's a lineman.
ch19079 Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 the fact that he had last years heisman QB in the back field didnt help him at all did it???????? he wont win. hes not even the best player on his own team.
ICE Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 AP and Reggie Bush are STUDS 153191[/snapback] Hey I agree. Bush reminds me of Faulk. Whereas AP reminds me of Eric Dickerson. Any team would take either one

Hell the UCLA Game proved your exact point. Personally I still think ML gets the popular vote and wins it. I won't gripe the kid is a damn good QB, but I still think it's a 'Popular' vote type of deal.

Jiminy Cricket Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I think Peterson should win it. But I don't think either OU player will win. I do agree about the bias. Anything USC does this season is gold in the eyes of the media and they try to tear down anything OU does. The best example of this is the Auburn situation. The media in general believes they got the shaft and OU doesn't deserve the #2 ranking meanwhile USC sits in the #1 spot with out even so much as a mention that they don't deserve their ranking. I know it’s off topic but Div I needs a playoff system!

Geee....what do you think AP is gonna do to USC?

They have a great passing game with White, but there's absolutely NO WAY they'd be undefeated and playing for the championship without Peterson. Maybe if they'd had a guy like him last year against Kansas State, they wouldn't have been beaten. He's the big difference in that team and the reason they're playing for the national championship.

He also broke his throwing wrist in the 2nd quarter of the Big12 Championships last year. But YES We are MUCH More balanced this year with AP. 1800 friggin yards as a rookie? DAMN!
R. Rich Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Did anyone see on PTI how Carson Palmer supposedly used his vote to vote for his guys (Leinart and Bush) and used the 3rd spot for some other WR for USC? Supposedly, he did so to take votes away from Jason White. How petty.
