i realize some of you wont like what i say here but i think the bills should pick up merriman. he is only 26 years old hes a beast and he would help this lb core alot. if he does good this year then sign him to a contract and maybe maybin will learn from a star like "lights out". if they dont pick him up i would think the bills fo dont want to help this team out. maybe he has been hurt but maybe he is over his injury bug and return to the sack machine he was it seriously cant hurt how many sacks does this d have 7 games im willing to bet clay matthews has more than the whole team.

it's a no risk high reward situation for the Bills. They can add him and give up no compensation, and if he ends up being bad they can get rid of him. If he's good, then they have a player. I really don't understand the idiots on this board that don't want to take a shot. I guess they enjoy watching the Bills not try to get better. I don't know.

They don't really have a player though, since he is a free agent at seasons end. Though as you state they have nothing to lose since he has as much upside/downside as either Kelsay or Torbor. And also have to gain a possible compensitory pick if he is lost in free agency.

The only way they would claim Merriman is if he were open to committing to Buffalo longterm--- the only way the Bills would be interested in him committing to Buffalo longterm is if over the course of the next 9 weeks he proved he can still be an effective player.

That's too many "ifs" for most teams, especially with so many young players needing reps in 2010. I don't see Merriman open to being a Bill beyond this year and I don't expect the Bills to claim him, at the very least for that particular reason--- but I do expect Bills fans and Stadium Wall posters to excoriate Buddy, Chan, & company for not "Gitin'R'Dun'd".

They need effective players that want to be here, if Shawne Merriman fits that description, so be it. If not, so be it--- then move on.

The one thing that most forget is a team like ours will have to take chances to get free agents like that. Taking a risk on merriman might be our drew brees esque risk. Could be our culpepper too. Eventually we will have to take a chance.

Totally agree and well said. And if the Bills do claim him and extend him , you better believe his contract will be incentive laden and by no means does bringing in Merriman take any focus away from our weakest defensive position, LB.
