I've done that far too many times over the past year. I really don't care to anymore. I'm not upset, really. I have a fine job.

Well apparantly I've missed those posts. Guess I need to pay more attention in the future.

Once again, if anyone would actually care to know what I do, you would realize it has nothing to do directly with "the porn industry" ...  But, then again, no one asks, everyone assumes, and we get the:  :D ....

It's cool Steve... When I worked as sysadmin in the webhosting field, I spent half my night monitoring our adult websites, to make sure they didn't violate NC state law. So I didn't directly work for them either. :D

Try making sure of the 300,000+ keywords, none of them not only don't break any laws (well, technically, no words, by themselves can break a law, not even the WORST words you can think of. Technically, but then again, I leave those definitions up to the legal dept.) , but aren't considered offensive in certain COUNTIES (ie: Polk County, FLA).

I have seen both Pantera and his new band Damageplan.  He is one of the greatest guitarists I've ever heard.

I think I'll go pop in some Pantera.

R.I.P Darrell.

Another friend of mine at work used to as a DJ in Texas... he was in bands here and there as well, but the partying got to him, so he moved here. He still does voice over work, like "You're listening to the smooth sounds of <radio station>", but i thought i remembered him talking about knowing Pantera. I asked him in an email. His response:

yeah.....i knew him well. rex brown (pantera bass player) is the one that gave me the tattoo i have on my left arm...but....i was asked by the dallas observer..(along with a lot of people that knew him) to write something about him....

i wrote this early this morning...but am working something to be published in the observer.....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have watched or read any news reports last night or this morning, then you probably already know this. A very good friend of mine and 100's of others was shot and killed while doing what he loved to do and did better than anyone else. Darryl Abbott from the band Damage plan was shot multiple times at point blank range by an audience member during the first song of a performance in Ohio.

Anyone that knew Darryl (and I know a few in my friends list that did) will tell you that he was a gentle, caring, open book. No rock star attitude even after Pantera opened eyes and packed stadiums all over the planet. I spent many, many evenings/over nights in the "Pantera mansion" in Arlington, TX and never once saw anything in Darryl other than a fuzzy, smiling, hugging, great soul. Oh yeah, and an absolute cosmic, out of this world, talented guitar player.

One of Darryl's favorite things to do was show up unannounced at Dallas area bars (J. Gilligans, Broadway Grill, Memphis..etc) and support what ever local band was playing. I was with him and Rex Brown once at bar in Fort Worth and the band started and was TERRIBLE...but Darryl refused to leave until after their first set was complete and he had told them to keep following their dream.

This is such a f-cking huge loss.

Funereal arrangments will be released some time tomorrow.....

Pantera's web site has several stories about it, and the Damageplan web site has nothing other then a picture of him with his name and birth-death dates.

This really sucks.

from my friend at work:

"i just talked to my friend derek from deep blue something and he is saying that people are buzzing that vinnie was killed too (his brother)....two band members are dead...but they haven't released who the other one is yet...."

I've also started to get that impression. They aren't releasing the info though.

Wasn't it yesterday in 1980 that John Lennon was shot?

For the metal community this would rate along those lines. Dime and Vinnie may be the best rythm section ever in a metal band.

When did the guitar become part of the "rhythm section?"

It is in guitar driven music.

You are not a metal fan I would guess?

I am a metal fan and a musician. The guitar is NOT part of the rhythm section. Drums and bass are the rhythm section.
