Most UNDER Rated Band

truth on hold

Recommended Posts

Given the popularity and still going strong of the "Most Over Rated Band" thread, figured I'd pose the opposite question.

Now before mocking my selection, remember that the method for determining most under rated, would be the greatest difference between a band's music versus the perception of it.

Initially, I'm going to go with "Creed." They had A LOT of quality tunes, good lyrics and if you listen closely some good guitar work too.

List of their most popular tunes ...

Arms Wide Open

My Sacrifice

Higher

One Last Breath

Away in Silence

One

What's This Life For

What If

Don't Stop Dancing

Weathered

That's a lot of quality tunes and there are others. YET no one ever talks about them.

Wow - I've seen posts just begging for flme responses, but saying Creed is underrated really sets new standards in flamability. I'm going to get my flame suit and marshmallows........

as much as creed disgusts me, they were for a few years the biggest drawing band for concerts and sold the most records in the us. therefore i dont know how they could be underrated.

i think they just wore out the whole god rock thing.............

deftones. now there is an underrated band

LOL, gtfo with that. Creed under-rated?!? They sold MILLIONS of albums, and ruled the radio airwaves for a couple years.

The reason no one talks about them anymore is that they were actually just "meh", with a great guitar tone, and Christ-y lyrics. People moved on because there was no real substance to the music. Everyone got sick of seeing Scott Stapp do his worst Eddie Vedder imitation. Even the band moved on from him.

(apparently I have to break this post up if I want to post other videos, so...)

Now if you want to talk about great bands that never got their due, I'd start with bands like Cave In from Boston who started out very metal back in 1998, and is one of the only metal bands to successfully transition into Rock without losing their audience. Why? Because it's that good.

From their 2003 release "Antenna"

Id also include Clutch in this discussion. They've been putting out some of the greatest, grimiest, southern hard rock since the early 90s and not enough people are listening...

Are you saying that everything Creed did was completely original and groundbreaking?

I suppose it goes without saying that I am going to have to come in here and say Iron Maiden because of my avatar.

But I do think that argument can be made. Sure they have been around for a long time, sold tons of records and usually sell out all their shows, but this has all been done with almost no radio play until very recently.

Also it seems like anytime I get someone to listen to Maiden for the very first time they come away saying that Maiden's sound was nothing like they expected it to be. Most people seem to prejudge them as being some crazy scream metal that is just random noise and not easy to listen too. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

+1 to Clutch and Deftones.

Agreed.

Show me another band that has sold 70-80 million albums without being on the radio.

And +2 for Clutch.
