ajzepp Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 They ask you to make sure you weren't actually ordering the meal. You could easily be referring to the Whopper meal when you say, "Whopper with cheese and a Coke." Besides, would you rather they took what you said literally and gave you a Whopper with cheese and some Coke on top? That's what *I'd* do if you gave me attitude about confirming your order. Oh, trust me, I NEVER give them attitude. I am as nice as can be to fast food folks...I'm not stupid man, I worked in the food flingin' industry for five years. I know better than to antagonize people who prepare things I eat Come to Chicago.. Most of the local gyro places will just give you the fries... Or if you hit one of the Maxwell Street Polish sausage stands... Yep... Fries are gratis. You will pull your hair out when you order one Polish and one hot dog... The two order of fries will magically be in there! If you don't want to eat them... You pitch them. Well are the fries any good? That's my main issue. I love tossing them in my fryer at home...they come out delicious. For some reason, fast food places have forgotten how to do something so simple. There are plenty of good books out there that explain from start to finish (cow to plate) what goes into the crap they serve at those places. Read them and you'll pretty much be purged of the desire to ever visit one again. Ugh...I couldn't read that stuff...I'm becoming a real fan of kosher food the older I get. I believe in eating animals, but from what I'm learning, one of the tenets of kosher preparation is humane slaughter. That's the main reason I only buy Hebrew National weiners now

They are fresh. I can't eat a hot dog anymore if they are NOT all beef... I know it sounds bad... But Sahlen's can't even hold a candle to the all beef kosher.

Have you ever heard of Garretts popcorn? My lesbian friend in Chicago had some sent to me a while back....holy CRAP that was amazing!

I bet Weber's would make it even more awesome... I should bring them in a couple jars and have them sample it. That is the carmel popcorn right? Their down in the loop... Sometimes there is a line right out the door and down the street. Betcha there are a lotta lesbians in Chicago. Edited October 16, 2010 by ExiledInIllinois
Acantha Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 There's also the documentary "Supersize me." Have you seen it? That would be one soggy burger! Yes, and while it's a very "in your face" idea, it didn't really have the affect on me other stuff did. Not that it doesn't make a good point, but it's very easy to dismiss it since "All of my food isn't fast food." Reading more about how horrible the process is from start to finish did it for me. I can't stomach even smelling burger joint food anymore. I make everything from home now. Not as convenient, but tastes better and I know what I'm getting.

I thought their prices were absurd until I actually tried some. It's worth every penny!

How can it be any worse than what you get in a supermarket... Where that stuff comes from has gotta be just as bad... Even the produce. No?

That's why you need to support the local farmers! It is 41 degrees out and I still have a bunch of tomatoes on the vine! I hope they 'turn"... If not, fried green tomatoes! Anyway, I totally agree... Most towns have their farmer's market... Yet that will be winding down at the end of this month...
GoodBye Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 youtube.com/watch?v=wDNy-bYndBQ I haven't heard this in years.

No? It is worse than what you can can get in the supermarket, but I try to stay away from processing as much as possible anyway. I buy my meat from a ranch about an hour away...freezer full at a time. I shop local as much as possible (not a lot around where I live) and try to buy organic if it's available. I'm going to start growing a little bit of my own next spring...though I'm no gardener, so I'm not expecting much.
Jim in Anchorage Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 (edited) That's their "script." If they don't stick to the "script" they're on the road again! As long as they didn't actually try to rip you for the "meal" you're OK! Speaking of Subs, think I'll pop over to John & Mary's! The one on Abbott road by the RR overpass? That place went way downhill. Edited October 16, 2010 by Jim in Anchorage

apuszczalowski Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 IIRC Subway calls them Sandwich Specialists And don't hate on the people at Subway for trying to push the "meal", they're just doing their job. Fast food chains pay people to eat at their restaurants every so often and have them grade the visit, including whether they were offered a meal, super sizing, or whatever the new promotion was. If the franchise fails, the owner is notified and from there the sh*t rolls down hill Not everywhere, they are called "Sandwich Artists" here The only thing annoying about that is that all 3 asked you. What I hate is when I go to some Tim Hortons around here to get a coffee in the morning through the drive thru and they ask me if I'm interested in (insert new menu item here) and say, "Welcome to Tim hortons, this is (insert employee name)" and then "pull ahead, (insert employee name) will have your order". I don't know why it bugs me, but I really don't care about who is making my drink and who will have it at the window for me
LeviF Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 There's also the documentary "Supersize me." Have you seen it? All that movie made me do was crave a double quarter-pounder with cheese.

LeviF Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 How??? I have not eaten McDonalds since. Wendy's or nothing. 'Twas the vomit. It got me all hot and bothered.
ExiledInIllinois Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Come on guys... It is just food (if you want to call it that)! Fall off that horse, get right back on it. Nothing mental about it... How many times have you got sick on booze... Only to hit the same drink again?
