oak tree 12 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Your not going to hear any Ryan Fitzpatrick bashing from me. We got a little more then expected in leaderhip and the guy gave it all. He is my choice for 2nd String and that is saying alot. He belongs here. We have got to get an extented look at Brian Brohm and now is the time, I would also like to take a short look and Levi Brown. Its the evaluation process before we invest in a drafted quarterback..... I'm with you all the way. was at the game as usual but i have to say i have never in my 50 years of watching NFL football seen a more inaccurate QB than fitz. yea he will throw one good pass(the TD to evans) then you can count on 10 absolutly horrible throws. if he had any accuracy or consistent accuracy yesterday we win that game by double digits. i can not count how many times the ball bounced on the turf @ the feet of wide open receivers or how many times it sailed 5feet over a open receivers head. he also under threw so man receivers it was not even funny. as a fan i cannot watch this guy for 11 more weeks. he is what he has always been a horribly inaccurate terrible QB. at least broahm is young,i could live with his mistakes we need to know if he can play or not. one thing Galiey has to know just like the 3 other teams who cut Fitz knew is that he cant play in the NFL. Arent they getting a pretty good look at him in practice now that he's #2? BB hasnt impressed anyone anywhere at any time since joining the NFL. "now is not the time" to "give him a look" to use the cliches. The team is fragile right now and the coaching staff isnt going to come switch QBs with Fitz playing well - yes fitz is playing well comparatively. No i dont think hes the answer either. obviously you did not attend the game yesterday and have to suffer thru watching fitz throwing the football. to say he is playing well is mind boggling IMO
finknottle Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Oh gee, we invested alot of time in Brohm! Guess what - alot of teams have invested a year in their third string quarterback, and you don't see them losing sleep over seeing what they got. They already know: a 3rd stringer. With Fitzpatrick we may finally have the semblance of an offense, capable of doing more that going three-and-out every drive. That means we are *finally* getting a chance to see what our receivers can do, our backs and line, and whether we can sustain drives and set plays up with the play-calling. What's more important to this franchise: seeing Brohm and Levi flail away haplessly, or starting to build something with the rest of the offense so that if-and-when we get a franchise quarterback he has a jelling supporting cast and a cohesive system to work in?

Yea he did miss some passes, kinda like all NFL QBs do. I dont think hes the answer but right now hes a band aid. Brohm has shown absolutley nothing to warrant playing over fitz right now. You have to show it in practice first. If Brohm was, he'd be playing. what is mindboggling is the constant brohm ball washing on this board. The guy is a long shot to even make the roster next year (assuming we draft a QB). I guess its because he hasnt proven to the fans how inept he has been.
CSBill Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I'm curious to see what Brohm can do as well, but I've done a complete 180 on how I felt about Fitzpatrick a month ago. I can't see pulling the guy right now. In the 3 games he's started this season he's completing 61% of his passes for 595 yds, 7 TD's/2 INT's (QB rating of 99.9). Our offense is averaging 23.3 ppg with Fitz under center. He definitely has a couple of "Fitz" moments here and there (ie the errant screen passes yesterday) but overall, this team's offense is playing well enough to win games. When is the last time we had a QB throw for 7 TD's over a 3 game stretch? Ironically, I think if Brohm came in and put up equal production as Fitzpatrick, we'd be happy to move forward with him as our starter. Amen! But since this team is going nowhere, might as well give Brohm a crack .... Ftiz is consumate back-up, and could get a job with some team tomorrow if he was released. But this is the year, if there ever was one, to see what BB can do, or not.

Those 40% could look beautiful or horrible, but the results are the same. One thing I noticed yesterday was that most of the ugly throws were so uncatchable, that they were never in danger of being intercepted. Fitzpatrick's interception percentage isn't bad, so it might just be better to have a guy who is the wild thing than to have a guy who gets close on his bad throws and gets a lot of picks.

oak tree 12 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Agreed, but IF and only IF they feel Brohm could be the guy going forward. Fitz = Brohm IMO, so i don't believe we'll be any worse off for the remainder of this season. There are too many people screaming for a QB change just because the bills still haven't won with fitz in there. We'll, news flash, he doesn't play defense, so it's not really his fault. thats total BS. you dont talk for me bro. that being said it's all about winning. yea the defense was bad. however as bad as they played ritz had receivers open all over the field yesterday and he could not get the ball near them.like i said if he had any accuracy yesterday we would have won the game in spit of our defense. Christ he bounced a screen pass @ the feet of roscoe and there was not a defender around him. the funniest thing was that roscoe caught it off the bounce and because it was behind the line of scrimmage it was a lateral. i never have saw anything like that in all my years of watching football. espn a few weeks ago rated the most inaccurate QB's in the last 5 years i think. guess who was #1 by a mile our boy fitz. i guess the 3 other teams who all cut his as- are all dummies, whatever.
Albany,n.y. Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 i guess the 3 other teams who all cut his as- are all dummies, whatever. Fitzpatrick has never been cut. He was drafted by St. Louis, traded to Cincinnati and after starting 12 games in 2008 for the Bengals, the Bills signed him to the biggest current QB salary on the team as an unrestricted free agent. This is a great example of the s##t that people make up just to support their opinions, regardless of what the real facts are.
flmike Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I want to see Brohm too. Feed him buckets of chicken wings and have him play OLB.
Nasty Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 JC! This guy hits 66% of his passes and throws 3TDs without an interception. On at TSW is this grounds for a QB change. He should be #7 on our list of priorities. He should have been intercepted in the third quarter, it might have been in the fourth, when we still had a chance to win. Most of his passes are high which equals INT's in the NFL they will come.
JPS Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 I don't think anyone is saying the QB search is over. But can you wait til Fitz smells a little worse before you start these threads. You will probably get your chance soon (Balt. and KC on deck). I can't stop thinking about the scheme that has Pozluzny covering Lewis man to man and you're attacking our 1 or 2 effective players from yesterday. Was he perfect? No. Adequate? Resounding yes. Brohm will play this year. And then you'll know. finally if you cant spell or use caps or punctuation it makes it really hard to read so i think ill have to pass on reading those posts.
Another Point of View Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Until Fitz struggles we will not see Brohm and there is no reason to put him in the lineup. Lets see what he can do the time is now Nice cliches for sportswriters but you dont take out your QB who is playing well enough to win to "see" what a practice squad pickup can do. If you think thats the proper move youve never been a leader in a locker room. In Case you missed it Fitz is struggling
Guest dog14787 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 yet you were infatuated with trent edwards and his 'poise'. this is laughable. You have anything worth while to post dumbass
PS 56 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Fitz is Fitz. Fitz will always be Fitz. We know what we have there. Bring on Brohm - let's see what we have there. Exactly! What do we have to loose?

Sorry Dude, the guy had the same problem at Harvard, Bengals and Bills. No Consistancy and wild passes. How many years does he need to fix this, he is not a #1 QB. You got to know when to hold em, no when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run......... You have to have a feel for this and I think you will see Brohm Edited October 11, 2010 by Another Point of View

Well said. (at the risk of repeating myself) With Fitz, we know exactly what we have as there is no development waiting to happen. At least the QB is now a constant in the equation. This will allow the coaches to evaluate the unknowns - O linemen, Steve Johnson/Nelson(s), how best to use CJ. If after the next several games the coaches feel they have seen all they need to regarding these aspects, then perhaps they may put in Brohm but I don't think it will happen now.

Completely agree with ya. With Fitzpatrick in there we can finally evaluate the other pieces and see who fits where.
Bufcomments Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 i agree....but not til AFTER the Ravens game....don't make his first start against that defense. Even tho Fitzpatricks numbers looked good....he threw horrible yesterday. His receivers made some great catches and on several balls Fitzpatrick wasn't even close. But at least he throws downfield. I agree 100 percent on Fitz....he is a good second string QB no more. Best time to judge Brohm is against the best. Why not throw him in vs the Ravens. Put him in the pressure cooker of the bat and see how he handles it. If he has a decent game it will boast his confidence.

Go watch some footage of Flutie from 1998-1999 on youtube. He made the same types of ugly throws Fitz makes but seemed to lead us to points and victories. Quarterbacks with smaller hands have a tendancy to have issues like this on occasion it doesn't make them bad. Brohm would get killed behind this line (and I like him and want to see what he has). Fitz makes a lot of plays with his brain and feet. This is the reason he has been more successful than Edwards. Just look at his Stats and rating he is in the top 10 QB's in several categories. If we had any defense at all we would be 2-3 right now. Don't kid yourself George Edwards is the problem. I wish we could have retained Perry Fewell as the D coordinator because our Defense was always passible under him with the same personel we have now. Fitz is far superior to Joe Dufek, Bruce (Int) Mathison, Matt (Noodle Arm) Kofler, and Vinnie (Freakin) Ferrigamo. When the coaches gave up on Ferguson in 1984 this was the littany of QB's we suffered through. I would also say he is better than Todd Collins, Rob Johnson, Alex Van Pelt, and JP of course. With the Defence from the 1998 and 1999 teams we would probably be 4-1 right now. Anyway Fitz is not the problem George Edwards is. Edited October 11, 2010 by Lenigmusx
