UN-Hazed and Amuzed Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) Cheesy I know but we all love them to some extent. This coversation came up with me and a few friends last night while watching TV, The Animals version of House of the rising sun was playing and we got into a discussion on exactly if it should be considered a "rock ballad". I'm up in the air about it so I thought I'd bring the discussion here with you guys. There is a lot of musical knowledge on this board. Some of my favorite though questionable choices: Elton John - Tiny Dancer Cars - Drive Bowie - Heroes Sound Garden - Black hole sun The Stones - Wild Horses Guns and Roses - November rain Skynyrd - Free Bird (IMO the best rock ballad) Extreme - More than words Edited October 7, 2010 by UN-Hazed and Amuzed

Jim in Anchorage Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Not rock, but I immediately thought of James Taylor
rockpile Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 "Up on Cripple Creek" - Live video of The Band from Big Pink, Woodstock, NY. A true American Band!
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rock_ballads First one that popped into my head was Scorpions' Still Loving You.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 http://en.wikipedia....of_rock_ballads First one that popped into my head was Scorpions' Still Loving You. Holy Eighth Grade Dance, Pandaman! I was going to "I'll Remember You" by Skid Row...same era
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Holy Eighth Grade Dance, Pandaman! I was going to "I'll Remember You" by Skid Row...same era I know, right? Some awesome hair ballads in that list.
LeviF Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) A few that I immediately thought of: Rush - Nobody's Hero Queen - The Show Must Go On Warren Zevon - Suzie Lightning Also: "November Rain" - Great music video, or greatest music video? Edited October 7, 2010 by LeviF91
ExiledInIllinois Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 http://en.wikipedia....of_rock_ballads First one that popped into my head was Scorpions' Still Loving You. I take umbrage to that selective list... If it is rock, a ballad... What is not a "rock ballad?" Sure there are sub-genres... Like: Power, Hair, etc.. etc...
HopsGuy Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Holy Eighth Grade Dance, Pandaman! I was going to "I'll Remember You" by Skid Row...same era I was in a bar once and we decided to go through the alphabet and name a "hair band" for every letter. It was pretty easy. I bet you could come up with a ballad for every hair band. Off the top of my head: Aerosmith - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" Bon Jovi - "I'll Be There For You" Cinderella - "Don't Know What You Got 'Til It's Gone." Dokken - "Alone Again" Europe - "Carrie" Firehouse - "When I See You Smile" Great White - "The Angel Song" I got stuck on H and tired of thinking about it... but I'm sure it can be done. I saw exactly one true hair band concert. The above-mentioned Firehouse opened for Tesla. Tesla had "Love Song". Jesus, I'm old.

ExiledInIllinois Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Rock ballad is pretty wide... Why is this thread stuck in the 80's power, hair, metal ballads? Eagles Desperado
LeviF Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Rock ballad is pretty wide... Why is this thread stuck in the 80's power, hair, metal ballads? Eagles Desperado A-hem. Mine are from the 90's.

The Dean Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Yes, the lyrics aren't the greatest. But the music makes up for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpoAuoEtkB8

The Dean Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Hey Deano, hows it going bro? Pretty fair. Health has been a bit ragged, but I've been through worse. Otherwise pretty good. How's sobriety treating you?
