Perhaps, to save our sanity, we should start thinking of the pre-season as our regular season...and everyone else's regular season would be our "post-season"...now, it appears, the off-season is beginning!

Great post, Dog. He's no Perry Fewell, that's for sure.

On Sunday night football they were just mentioning how Fewell has turned the NYG D around. Would have been nice to keep him as a D coordinator for a few more years. Might have even been HC material too, hard to tell with this mess.

Kelly you have nailed this one.

A VERY uninspired choice when he was hired. The scheme stinks and does nothing to compliment his players. I can't say that the 3-4 has been a failure because 3/4 of the time we are not in it. There is no pass rush. We are last in the league in stopping third down conversions. The Jets had holes 5 yards wide to run in. I'm sick of it. We haven't stopped the run since Pat Williams left.! turnover in 4 games. The personnwel is crap but Edwards is worse. He should be fired tomorrow and let Sanders see what he can do.

We should be angling right now to hire John Fox when he gets fired at the end of the year. But of course Ralph won't pay him.

This team neeeds a superstar defensive coordinator.

You just had to bring up Pat Williams, the single (although not the only) biggest reason Tom Donahoe should have faced a firing sqaud rather than simply being fired.

It was an uninspired choice by Gailey, with Edwards having a decent but not stellar coaching background and career. There was little in his history that would make anyone believe he would be an excellent coordinator. Right now, he looks like a bad choice who is in over his head, regardless of the lesser talent he has been given.

exactly

this has concerned me since i heard of edwards appointment as dc

gailey should be able to get the offense fixed sooner or later, but why in the world would i be confident in edwards? hes always been an unimpressive dc choice. and you did a nice job outlining why its still not totally fair to judge him, but id be surprised if he ends up being a good dc

I mean, that I suppose that is how the cards fall. The big guys don't take the fall.

But, it was the collective decision of Nix and Gailey to switch to the 3-4 w/o any of the proper personnel. Personally, I am in favor of making that switch. But, I am not at all surprised with the absolute disaster the defense has been. Our secondary is the only unit that is fully compromised of players that are actually playing the position they were drafted/signed to play. The rest is patchwork. And the secondary won't be making plays w/ no pressure on the QB.

This ^^^^^^^

It wasn't Nix and Gailey who were kidding themselves. It was the people on these boards who thought we would be competitive with this lineup in the first year of a rebuild. Now the disappointment (self-inflicted but very real) is eating them up and they're running around getting angry at everybody. This was bound to happen when we didn't pick up an LT or a QB and did switch to the 3 - 4.

These people went on and on about "Negative Nancies" and how real fans always expected 12 - 4 seasons and how we had a realistic chance at the playoffs THIS YEAR, for God's sake, and now they're wondering what happened. What happened is that they were kidding themselves and now they're being forced to confront it.

As much as I'd like to blame the lack of talent on defense, these are the same group of misfits that Fewell had last year and they weren't giving up 38 points a game and getting blown out. The switch to a 3-4 without the proper personnel has been a disaster. Edwards should be held accountable. It's not all his fault, and I know they were ranked in the bottom of the league last year too, but they weren't giving up points and getting blown out like this before. Edwards has got to go.

They're NOT the same group as last year. Not even close.

Aaron Schobel was an excellent pass rusher last year, and now we're seeing what his loss means. Kavika Mitchell was here last year, playing the position he's good at. Stroud, Kelsay, and a bunch of others were playing positions they were good at, instead of scrambling to learn positions they aren't really built for anyway.

You say the switch without proper personnel has been a disaster? Yeah, of course, THIS YEAR. But in the first year of a rebuild, you expect disaster. That's what happens, and it's not all bad because you get a high draft choice and you figure out the one or two players who can actually play the new positions and you get your young guys playing time and experience.

The people with the problem are the folks who expected a good team this year.

Didn't someone in TBD say that our D would surprise people due to the new scheme? The only people it has surprised are the fans who actually want to believe the Bills have a DL and LB AND the Bills players themselves...

I will eat crow! I said I thought a lot of things preseason. I feel like it is 1984 again. I try not to get to bent because after all it is just a game but this team is the most misarable I have seen since the Lions went winless. We will probably win 3 but those will be gifts. I say the FO starts cleaning house now and keeps only the players who the have to to field a team. Jauron might have been a miricle worker to pull 7-9 records with this lack of talent. The Linebackers are the worst I have ever seen on an NFL roster. The don't hacve a clue where they are supposed to be on any given play it is ridiculous.

So we decide it's time for the 3-4 defense and we bring in the Dolphins LB coach to mastermind this seismic change.

Just another incredibly bad decision by Gomer and Floyd.

I am not a huge fan of Edwards or the Bills attempt at a 3-4, but I can't say that this proves the team is not well coached.

You have never seen a player other than Byrd (who has been almost non existent this year) even on a good team not do this ? Players learn this concept in Pee wee football. He tried to make a play, it didn't happen.

McKelvin biting on a pump fake, or plain just getting burned, your right, I have never seen this happen on a good coached team. /sarcasm off

Mckelvins bad plays were microscopic in terms of what happened today. Everytime they ran the ball, there were holes 5 yards wide. Ok maybe not everytime, 90% of the time. Worst run D I've seen in 36 years watching the bills. If I were Rex Ryan, I would've tried to become the 1st team in history to run the ball on every play. They would scored a td on every drive and they wouldn't have punted once. Edwards is bad. Fire him asap.
