billsfan714 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 The only way I'm ok with this contract is if his base salary in year 4 is 23 million.
NoName Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 This is a depressing time to be a bills fan. I honestly think there is a possibility that we will go win less this year. Chris Kelsay, should have been cut or given a reduced salary. He didn't produce in the 4-3 and he isn't producing in the 3-4. If you guys think Whitner is trash then what is Kelsay. This is a sad day for the franchise. I am tired of being picked on all of the time for being a Bills fan. I am tired of us always getting these nonamed players. I am tired of not getting pro bowl players in their prime. It's sad that our only frequent pro bowler is our punter. This is soooooo sad. We deserve better than this.
dayman Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Do GMs ever comment on extensions? Is a reporter ever going to get to ask Nix about this?
Big Turk Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Profootballweekly.com Spin was that it "makes sense" to extend Kelsay...Huh?? "The way we see it The Bills' move to sign Kelsay to an extension makes sense. He's one of their most reliable front-seven defenders, and though he has no sacks this season, he has shown pass-rush ability in the past." Reliable for what? Trailing the man he is covering by 10 yards or being outrun to the corner by every running back he faces?

1B4IDie Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 On the positive note Gronkowski & Hernandez, Dustin Keller, and Anthony Fasano will all be planning for their next extensions after Kelsay is involved in their coverage 2 times a year.
BillsFan74 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Don't like this move, seriously why extend this guy. Maybe at ILB but a joke at OLB.
Meark Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 1) Poz 2) Davis 3) Mitchell All three are better than Kelsay as a LB. I think you could even make an argument that Ellis and Torbor are better LB's than Kelsay. Hell I think Danny Batten is probably a better LB than Kelsay. I like what I have seen out of the front office so far, but I don't get this move at all. Hopefully, they know more than we do. Fixed.
sleaky72 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 OMG!!!!! ONLY in town like Buffalo where the likes of Pornadino are celebrated as reformers and heros can a total scrub and waste of space like Christie Kelsay be rewarded with this kind of contract. I mean this is unreal. If U released this turkey today he wouldnt even be resigned for the veterans minimum next season. This turkey is a bonafide scrub. I mean the Bills just screwed up their salary structure going forward!!!! We let London Fletcher, Antoine Winfield and Pat Williams walk over money yet we paid this obscene amount for a scrub? In honor of our song: "The Bills make we wanna SHOUT!"
Sisyphean Bills Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) After thinking about this, the only way I can rationalize the extension (and it makes very little sense, I know) is that they gave Chris Kelsay all of that $$$ as a F*** YOU to Aaron Schobel, who left the Bills and tried to milk more money out of the Texans. Schobel was by far the better player and knew he was the better player, so I can see him envying Kelsay's new contract. Of course, you don't run a business by making personnel moves in the interest of shoving those moves in former player's faces, so I really have no idea why this slow, non-instinctual, horrible DE/OLB, was re-signed. Nah. I think somebody in the contract negotiation office, with no ability to recognize football talent whatsoever, realized that because Kelsay is now an OLB and not a DE, that he could get him for "cheaper" and thus this was a frugal, timely move to save the team some money. Like the cartoon clowns say in the Guinness ads, "BRILLIANT! <clink>" Edited September 30, 2010 by Sisyphean Bills
spartacus Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Each of the last 3 Bills Front Office "regimes" are now responsible for prolonging the Chris Kelsay era: -Donahoe drafted him high in the 2nd round -Levy/Brandon/Overdorf gave him a giant raise and extension -Nix now gives him a 2nd extension I'm not sure why Ralph or anyone else that served continually at One Bills Drive during the past 8 years would have such a soft spot for Kelsay, but there's just no way he truly is a starting DE/OLB in this league worth that kind of money. He's 30 years old and we're rebuilding? And Cornell Green's contract runs out when he's 37? Come on, now. the constant over those regimes is Jim Overdorf--who has shown a strong habit for acquiring and overpaying slow, white defensive players It's bad enough they extended him, but why after game 3? probably another pluy they use for any real player wanting to get paid marekt value - where they can point to Kelsay and say you need to play the game and we will take care of you.

The Big Cat Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I'll continue to play Devil's advocate, just because this is too nonsensical to truly be nonsensical: With the capless year fast approaching, shouldn't we STOP comparing his salary to those that exist. Is it at all possible that this type of money will put him in the bottom third of the league (where he belongs) come 2012?
Cash Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 2010 is already a capless year. Not sure what you think is approaching, but it's not a capless year.

BillsVet Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Jim Overdorf strikes again. Senior VP of Football Administration who ordinarily works with the salary cap. But with no cap this year, he's turned his attention to cutting former starting QB's abruptly and then re-signing underachieving and well-spoken players who do not make plays. A great day to be a Bills fan!
