Buffalo Barbarian Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 If there is a Lockout in 2011 and no games are played, will the draft order be the same in 2012 giving us 2 top draft choices?
Wayne Cubed Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Im a little confused as to why everyone thinks there will be no draft. Listen, the CBA ends in March. That doesn't mean if they don't reach an agreement by then, then there is an automatic lockout. A lockout probably wouldn't occur til July, if they can't reach an agreement by then. Seeing as the draft is in April, i would say you can bet there will be one. Secondly, even if the players decide to hold a lockout, the college kids getting drafted are not part of the NFLPA, so the owners would have every right to pick these players in a draft. There will be a 2011 draft.
GOBILLS78 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 1.) There will be no lockout. 2.) If there were, it's likely the NFL would use a weighted lottery in 2012, the same way the NHL did a few years ago.

They would be more likely to use the system the NHL did to determine the draft order after their lost year which was a lottery determined draft order. The draft was then done in a serpentine fashion.
Sisyphean Bills Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 (edited) The players are decertifying the union to make it possible to sue the owners quicker. That could mean playing ball in a courtroom, which could mean who-knows-what. The NFL draft (also the salary cap) is part of the CBA between the league and the union. GOBILLS78 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 True, and like the NHL, we would get screwed out of the overall 1 pick. Big deal -- the Sabres only lost out on what's-his-name. Crosby? I remember Buffalo and Pittsburgh both had the same chance -- percentage wise -- of getting that pick. Funny how the city can't catch a break.

BuffaloWings Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Serpentine fashion? Snake...like a snake draft in fantasy football. The order is reversed in round 2, then back to the original order in round 3, reversed in round 4, and so on.
