I've got the feeling ever since the regular season started that the coaching staff is protecting their young first round pick by not subjecting him to the punishment he's likely to take behind that truly Offensive Line. Now with the benching of Edwards and them not moving Brohm into the #2 hole, I wonder how much they're actually looking to the future.

Do they think these two guys might be able to help them down the road and they're protecting them by not putting them on the field? They know they're not going anywhere this year with or without them, so maybe they see no point in putting these two on the field only to see them getting discouraged and beat up trying to play behind an OLine that can't protect anybody.

Anybody think this is a real possibility or am I just in complete denial?

I don't think that they think Brohm is any good, and neither do I. There is no reason to protect a turd.

As far as Spiller goes, I think they overestimated his ability to carry the offense (because Chan Gailey basically said, "We over estimated his ability to carry the offense") and I suspect that he will be used more as a scat back, especially until he can learn to block better and deal with NFL defenses between the tackles.

I sincerely hope they haven't given up on the season... yet.

At this point, Fritz gives us the best chance of having a productive offense.

Likewise, unless one of the backs distinguishes themselves (one way or another) they will continue to use all 3, "roughly" equally as the situation warrants.

They're saving our offense from the ineptitude that likely would result were Brohm to play now. And they're saving Spiller from wear and tear, but to the same extent that they are so doing for Marshawn & Jackson.

Against Miami Spiller missed some blocking assignments and I heard Chan talk about his needing patience reading blocks. Common issues for rookie running backs. I think we will see more of Spiller as the season progresses. I sure hope so.

Brohm? I am not sure they think Brohm is better than Fitz at this point. Fitz has been getting more snaps in practice as the #2. The #3 does not get many reps at all except as the Scout team QB. Fitz's experience must also be a factor.
