Chef Jim Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 There was never a war on poverty maybe a short police action but never a war. That's because it should be fought by the individual and not a government "army."
DC Tom Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 There was never a war on poverty maybe a short police action but never a war. Ironic that it should be started by LBJ, then...

DC Tom Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 The irony doesn't escape me hence my wording I'm sure it escaped somebody. Had I not listened to the radio this morning, it would have escaped me.

drnykterstein Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/09/what_if_growth_had_been_equal.html The top 1 percent now accounts for 23.5 percent of the national income if you include capital gains. In 1979, they only had 9.8 percent of the nation's earnings. During that same period, tax rates on the richest Americans have actually dropped. So as the economy went one way -- toward more money going to the rich -- the tax system went the other.
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 No kidding! But we bring it upon ourselves by being lazy. Did you know that 40% of sick days are taken on Monday or Friday, giving them a 3-day weekend? Ridiculous. For me it is Tuesday's and Thursday's giving me a 4 or 5 day weekend!
