EC-Bills Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I just don't get it. I really don't see how he would be an upgrade over our current group of QBs.
tbonestake Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) I'm sure it has to do with the fact that people have heard of him because he went to Ohio State and played Quarterback there. Beyond that, I have no clue <IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt="" src="http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif"> Edited September 7, 2010 by tbonestake

Because the Heisman trophy ALWAYS translates to success in the NFL?!!!!!!!! COME ON MAN!!! How's Eric Crouch doing in the league? How was Danny Wuerffel's career? Ty Detmer was a solid pro too, wasn't he? There are exceptions to this but come on man, don't tell me that winning the Heisman has anything to do with being a great pro QB.

People can legitimately take different sides on Troy Smith as an NFL quarterback. To reduce the pro-Smith argument to "he went to Ohio State" for the purposes of belittling that side is both disingenuous and petty.

So you would want a 5-11 QB leading your team against the best teams in the NFL? A guy who is not a consistent passer and will NEVER be a starting QB just because he won the Heisman? Call me disingenuous and petty but make a better argument for the guy being a starting NFL QB besides 'He won the Heisman' To me, he is a guy who played for Ohio State and some people may have heard of him. Amstel Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I don't know much about Troy Smith. The fact that they released him can't be good....

With that said, I think the numbers will go up under Gailey. 43.2 It's not love for Troy Smith as much as that number. Brohm followed that up with 82.4, 39.6 and 34.9 this preseason. Then again, this might be what awful refers to. Edited September 7, 2010 by buffaloaggie

The point is you should be trying to make the better argument. Yes, he went to Ohio State, but if you know there's more to it than that, say so. If you want to say he is not a consistent passer, why not? And writing he will never be a starting QB is pretty conclusory, isn't it? Not really much of an argument. The reason I think you're being disingenuous is because you do things like call him 5'11, while linking to a site that says he's 6'0. I'm done. Good luck, tbone.

That would suggest we they are the worst QBs in the NFL. Yet the stats show they are right in the middle of the pack. So already you are a liar. In fact the Jets QBs are worse than ours. Secondly, yes I am using pre-season stats because the stats from 2009 mean nothing right now. We have a new coach and a new offensive system. What's the point of citing 2009 stats when everything is different from last year? At least I back up my argument with stats. You have nothing to back your opinion. Welcome to the board, cretin. PTR

Then again, this might be what awful refers to. Come one man, those numbers on Brohm are bogus. In the second game he attempted one pass...so throw that QB rating out, and in his 3rd appearance his QB rating rests on the shoulder of his failed teammates who dropped several right on the money passes and that crap TE who caused the INT...the rating is no where near close to his level of play that game. Not saying he was the second coming of Manning or Brady, but that rating was greatly affected by the many mistakes by the guys he was throwing to running wrong routes, dropping passes, and that crap TE that was cut causing an INT. Troy Smith is a long way away from being an NFL QB right now, hence why he doesnt have a team.

You're the kind of person who finds fault in other people's points but you add zero in terms of your personal assessment. So I'm a jerk for telling it like it is and saying that he has not proven himself a pro QB! Tell me where I'm wrong instead of tossing around big smelly words like 'disingenuous' You're looking too far into this. What has he done in the NFL besides get cut, NOTHING?!! He was a great college football player. Thats all! Did you see the numbers I linked you too ,Tortured, or were you too stuck on his physical dimensions? Have you seen Troy Smith play? My point is, I don't have to convince you or anyone else of ANYTHING!!! Troy Smith has proved NOTHING and will continue to prove NOTHING! You toss around big words like you're a literay critic but face it, it's much easier to attack me than find value in what Troy Smith has done in the pros. Look, I get it! You take the easy way out. Bravo! The only thing I was wrong about was the height and even that, I was off by 1 inch! Maybe I'm an inch off on my assessmenr of Troy, but I am certain I can point to his body of work, or lack there of thus far, to drive my point home. Besides, the inch off thing was a metaphor for possibly being wrong. Looks like that one was to abstract for ya!
