Ed_Formerly_of_Roch
So if Brown signs with anothewr team and is on their PS, if one of the Bills QB's got hurt, they could stil lcontact Brown and sig him to their active roster. So unless some other team signs him to their active roster, the door isn't totally closed on him not returning. Or they sign some other player than has played iunder Chan and knows his offense. While I can understand wanting a QB capable of running the opponents offense for practice purposes, seems like it is equally important to have a QB who understands your own system should disaster strike. Is Brown not capable of taking on the role? Gailey praised Brown for understanding the game. Seems like just the kind of guy you'd want on the PS in that case. Obviously, Gailey sees something he doesn't like, but seems to me he'd be a great PS candidate.

Levi Brown on Twitter: LeviBrown10 NEVER woulda guessed id be in this position right now...not even a practice squad invite. i've now officially gone from surprised to pissed! You're a 7th round pick. Before camp, coach Gailey tells the media that there will be "open competition" for the QB spot. Within a few weeks, when he talks to the media about this "open competition", your name isn't included in the mix. So you knew, or should have known, that as far back as early July the coaches had already decided that you weren't in a position to compete with the other 3 for the starting job. Reading between the lines, you knew, or should have known, that they had already decided you weren't going to make the final 53. You were here because they needed a 4th QB in camp to run practices and participate in preseason games. IOW, you were camp fodder. And you "NEVER" would have guessed you would be in this position? Time for a reality pill, dude.
eball
Sooo many posters here, were under the delusion that the entire league was waiting on hand and foot if/when Levi Brown got cut. "No they won't cut him!" "He is our QB of the future and if he's cut, he'll immediately be signed by someone else!" "They won't risk putting Brown on waivers, he's too valuable." "Bills can't stash him on the practice squad.. The entire league is watching the waiver wire for his name." And so forth, and so on.. I told the Brown fanatics, it was very likely no other team had a hard-on for Levi. Turns out, he hasn't even been named to a PS yet.. Congrats on correctly assessing the interest in a 7th round draft pick. Christ. I've admitted I believed the Bills liked Brown's potential and thought he would make the roster -- based upon my assessment of the QB talent around the league. I was wrong. But your post is asinine. sabres...yawn
Can we just stop assuming a guy can't play just because he gets cut. These NFL "geniuses" making a great living completely missing on players on a regular basis. I don't know how good Levi Brown is- my sense is that he can play in the NFL. Of course, what do I know? I never cut Brett Favre.

jwhit34
I said it elsewhere but I think they are waiting to see who else they may trade for, claim or sign to the active roster at other positions. If there is a spot left, I would imagine they would like to have Levi there. But, for example, they obvious like Dominique Harris. But now that they had to cut him in order to keep Urbik, Harris now becomes a prime candidate for one of the eight spots. We are thin at a lot of positions, so we obviously need 3-4 of the 8 spots for OL, LB and WR. And finally, for all intents and purposes, Brian Brohm is now our developmental quarterback. Trent is the starter (for now), Fitz is the veteran back-up. And Brohm is the young guy with the potential to develop into a starter one day but needs the time. These comments are right on. The talk about Brown was a classic case of locals overvaluing the guy when he wasn't that good (I call it the Don Beebe theory - back in the day there were those who talked about Don Beebe like he was on the verge of being a Pro Bowler when really he was just a good 3rd receiver). Also, this may be a good indication that they are thinking QB for the 2011 draft. If that is the case, they don't need Brown. They would probably keep 2 of the 3 current QBs and add the new guy into the mix.
sharper802
I bet they add Troy Smith after the first week and part ways with Brohm This way Smith's contract is not guaranteed. Maybe they take a flyer on Lefavour(sp?)or another for the PS.
Kelly the Dog
Fitz and Brohm both playing pretty decent in the games and practice probably had a lot more to do with Levi not making the team than the fact he didn't play lights out as a 7th round pick from a small school in a spread offense. What's asinine is the fact you felt it necessary to post simply to highlight that you were smarter than someone else about Levi Brown. I guess you're right, though...asinine isn't the proper word. Albany,n.y.
WOW. The teams who watched the tape of Thursday's game were surprised the guy was even drafted, and the Bills, after watching the tapes were pissed that they drafted him. Anyone who questions the Bills judgement just has to look at Brown's performance in the Lions game. He Marangi'd any chance he had. When he calms down he should try to get himself to the UFL before there are no jobs left there either. I bet they add Troy Smith after the first week and part ways with Brohm This way Smith's contract is not guaranteed. Maybe they take a flyer on Lefavour(sp?)or another for the PS. Brohm has been there throughout camp and did enough to make the team. Why bring in Smith? LeFevour was claimed on waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals, so he's not available. rpcolosi
Maybe he's negotiating with other teams to see if he can be on a regular roster as opposed to PS. you're very correct. if he doesn't make a squad (say arizona or something) he's got a shot to end up on our PS. just gotta let it work itself out. unless they're gunning for troy smith as a 4th qb... Brand J
Perhaps you can enlighten us on the value and purpose of the post I took umbrage with. If you go back and read that post, I didn't call anyone asinine, nor pathetic, for believing Levi Brown would be in demand. I merely stated what the rest of rational Bills fans observed: Levi Brown wasn't that good and if cut, would be available for the practice squad. If that somehow hurt your feelings, then you need thicker skin. If this is not possible, then buy a pair of "rational" glasses at your local Rx store.
