In the preseason (and i dont normally put a lot of stock in the presseason) I saw 6 to 7 dbs playing at one time. The nickel and dime packages looked to have 4 corners, 3 safeties. Bryon Scott has been playing a lot like a linebacker. I think its a good idea to bring more flexibility. And more speed on the field. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He was drafted by Levy/Jauron, two men who place more emphasis on defensive backs than I for one have ever seen. It would be great if Whitner starts to catch on in year 5, no? He's being allowed to play much closer to the line so he can get his nose in on more plays. Its no longer the idiotic strategy of running backwards on the snap that jauron employed. One thing DW apologists continue to maintain is the guy isn't used correctly in their defensive scheme. Well, he frequently gets washed out near the LOS, and the past few seasons he's been nicked up as a result. Second, a guy taken top 10 should be making plays at the LOS like he did on Benson, which was very nice. You can blame DJ for his underwhelming amount of impact plays, but if he doesn't force some fumbles or make a few picks in 2010, what can be said then? As for Jeff Fisher, interesting you note him. As if HC's are the ones solely making picks on draft day. I think Bud Adams and whomever the GM at the time (Floyd Reese perhaps) had a hand in many of those picks. Moreover, Tennessee has been pretty darn good in finding lineman, which is something of a necessity in the NFL. You can't run and defend the pass when all you've got it RB's and DB's, right? please stop the pain Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 DB is really the Bills 2nd strongest position after RB. Believe me these guys are gonna get a lot of work this year. Maybe plan is to rotate them a lot??? You gotta figure this group is going to make the most tackles as the D-line and linebackers both look weak. No penetration means lots of time for the opposing QB to pass downfield. So far it doesn't look like the Bills can stop the run near the line either. I think that the Bills NEED to lead the league in interceptions. If they can manage to get turnovers to keep the D off the field...returns to get good field position....give the running backs lots of opprutunities..????? Perhaps Chan's overall plan is to use these 2 team strengths to win games?? Probably crazy. I would have had more hope for receivers if easley hadn't been hurt and more hope for LB corps if I didn't think Brian Scott wasn't better than several of them. Keep in mind, as mentioned in an article on Buffalo Rumblings, the Bills may not be done 'wheeling and dealing' just yet and are most likely scouring the waiver wire. They are short at TE, lack a dominant pass rusher, and IMO are short on the O-line. Any pick-ups not on the practice squad will most likely be seeing some DB heads rolling. I'd keep a promising rookie over a guy that had already washed out in NE too for the #4 spot. This regime is about youth and potential.
