notwoz Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Not all stadium deals are losers. Doing nothing while the Ralph becomes further and further outdated is no answer. Think boldly here. It's easy to be bold with OPM (Other People's Money). But you're idea is a real diamond in the rough. LOL Why don't you line up the financing, acquire the land, get necessary goverment approvals and let us know how it turns out.

LOL Why don't you line up the financing, acquire the land, get necessary goverment approvals and let us know how it turns out. And what is your solution? To stick your head in the sand and declare that the Ralph is great, while it crumbles around you? LOL. The stadium should be a draw to attract the best players and fans, not a hindrance. Let's get with the program.
notwoz Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 And what is your solution? To stick your head in the sand and declare that the Ralph is great, while it crumbles around you? LOL. The stadium should be a draw to attract the best players and fans, not a hindrance. Let's get with the program. My solution is to come up with a realistic business plan. What is your "program" other than to say BE BOLD? When I go to Niagara Falls, I want to see the natural wonder, not some ugly f***ing stadium. I've asked you a number of times, which of the other of the seven wonders of the world has a sports stadium on top of it. You haven't adressed that question, and I'll keep asking it until you do. LOL. Also, someone has to pay for a new stadium regardless of whether it's in Buffalo, Orchard Park, Toronto, or Tulsa, Oklahoma. Who is going to pay for it? If I were a taxpayer, I'd say F-You. Show us a business plan. How are you going to pay for this stadium, how are you going to get the environmental impact studies to fall your way, how are you going to get taxpayers in New York to pay for yet another white elephant. Don't respond with juvenile platitudes like "get with the program," or "build it and they will come." I want to see some concrete data. If you can't provide that, go f**k yourself. Have a nice day.
The Senator Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Are you sure they don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee? You are aware, I hope, that the American side of Niagara Falls is not only a state park, and an Olmstead park, but is also the oldest state park in the nation, so there's really no place the put a stadium on 'the edge' of the falls, unless you mean literally on the edge of the falls - in which case, I'm sure Bechtel and the Army Corps of Engineers could figure out a way to build it, but it'd be tough for even us diehard Bills fans to get to the gates... Not to mention that there is no place on the American side of the Falls to build a stadium that has a good view of the cataracts. Put the stadium away from the immediate proximity of the Falls, and you can't see the Falls, so there is no "view" to look at. I'm guilty of responding to an idiotic thread, but it's because I can't let this idiotic thread go unanswered. The Falls are truly a wonder of the world, and there's nothing man can do to improve on it.

Great stuff. How can we not take advantage of building a grand stadium on the edge of the falls? Sure it wont be easy, but all good things in life come with a little pain. We should do it. The steel spine types in this great region of the country deserve it.
Buffalo Billy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 From the creator of such classics as "if you build it, they will come", "get with the program", and of course the legendary "why not", comes visionary spam-director Merle Haggard's newest literary debate masterpiece, "all good things in life come with a little pain".
PromoTheRobot Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 You can't put the stadium right up against the Falls but you can get awfully close. There is empty land next to the Days Inn which is a stone's throw from the Rainbow Bridge. Tear down the Day's Inn and part of downtown and you have a perfect location. Parking? Look at Google Maps just east of the Casino. Acres of empty fields. There is absolutely PLENTY of room for a stadium complex and parking in the Falls. There are also several roads in and out so arguing the Grand Island bridges will be backed up is not valid. There's River Road, NF Blvd and Route 104 as alternate routes. That's no worse than what you have in OP right now. There is no question the USA side of the Falls blows, and building a stadium will not solve that entirely. What it will do is create a one-of-a-kind attraction at least 10 weekends a year; even more if you are able to attract large events like a Final Four or Super Bowl. Between the Falls, the casinos, the Canadian attractions, and whatever new attractions you build with the stadium will make that a major destination again. PTR

The Falls would be a perfect venue and would revive the entire US side in very short order, not to mention creating an atmospher where players actually want to come and suit up.
Buffalo Billy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Don't get me wrong, I would love a stadium within reasonable hiking distance of the border. But its never going to happen.

That is an excellent point. Think about free agents coming to visit the Bills and seeing a retractable roof stadium with attractions all within walking distance. It would improve our image immensely. PTR
Buffalo Billy Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I would be there by now, but that stupid Rogers company decided to take a bunch of the Blue Jays channels and stick them on a channel not provided by any carrier available in town here. So I'm hanging at home for a bit listening to it on the radio. *edit* bunch of the Blue Jays -games-...

Geno Smith's Arm Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 The basic idea is a very good idea. A stadium (not right next to the falls) in Niagara Falls would be great. It is a misused, and thoroughly mismanaged, international attraction No one seems to think I know what I'm talking about, but the big problem is the COUNTY. It doesn't have the juice to wrangle an NFL team away from Erie County, where the real power is based. There is too much money at stake, and too little money in Niagara County to pull it off. It is sparsley populated, and it's run by bumpkins and organized crime ("allegedly", in my best Jim Rome voice). Whatever you think about corruption in Erie County, it is at least "legitimized" crime.

Then you have to figure out how to pay for it. Who's got the $$$$ to pay for a new stadium, because the county and the state don't have the money, or the borrowing power, to pull it off.

tonyjustbcuz Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 My thoughts regarding our stadium situation is to build a state of the art complex on the American side of the mighty Niagara Falls. The era of the Ralph is quickly coming to an end. It's been a heckuva ride, but change is not necessarily a bad thing. Butt it up next to the falls, give it a retractable roof, with the understanding it stays open for all Bills' games. It would be a wonderful venue in a popular setting, instantly giving the wonderful Niagara area a much needed shot in the arm. Thoughts? It's all relative! I live in the Southtowns so I love the Bills in Orchard Park! Also the Ralph is already paid off and I don't see Ralph Wilson paying a portion of a billion dollars to build a state of the art stadium. He's got it too cushiony in O.P. for that. It's fine that the Buffalo Bills reside in a stadium that is a suburb of Buffalo, but to me Niagara Falls is it's own seperate entity and should not represent Buffalo! The Falls is spectacular in it's own right and it doesn't need all the glitter and everything that goes with a state of the art stadium. The American side is somewhat tranquil and nice to visit as it stands. If you want all the cosmopolitan glitter, congestion, and huge towers that is what the Canadian side represents. Except for NFL restrictions I would rather see a new NFL team in Niagara Falls, Canada (and not the Bills of course!) to be on the other side of the Falls. Yes, there would be many arguements against that idea..as the population of the region may not be able to support 2 NFL clubs in such close proximity and it may reduce the Canadians that currently are season ticket holders of the Bills. But, based on just purely football matchups...wouldn't be awesome to have a game between the Buffalo Bills and the Niagara Falls (Canada) Thunder! You think the rivarly between us and the Dolphins is something? This would be huge! Oh well..just thinking out loud..probably wouldn't work?? Pros? Cons? (if it were allowed by the leaugue?) Maybe the distance between franchises shouldn't apply if the location of franchise(s) are not in the same country with another franchise in close proximity? I know this isn't the topic and I'm too lazy to start a new one...curious for feedback, the good, bad, and ugly! ...lol
